Gearing.

#1 Post by PhilTurner » Thu May 26, 2022 12:15 pm

Now the bike is up and running and on the road, the engine runs fine with no nasty noises or leaks. With the standard gearing which I assume is 40/16 I find first and second gear a bit tall.
What would be the best gearing to use and what does everyone else use.
Not yet fitted the inline check v/v,s as with running it more it is not so evident.
PS.What is the best method to add some photos. Thanks Phil

On my modified RG (sold many moons ago) I went with two more teeth on the rear which felt more tractable at low speed (and wheel lofting;)
Even at that, the top end was great...one wide open run clocked an indicated 258km/hr. Apart from being a little bit of insanity on a long straight, the main sensation was how smooth, quiet and comfortable the bike seemed at that speed. I did get a ticket that day even though I explained I was doing top end main jet tuning, which was true.

I agree on the 14 front. 41 tooth rear would be easier on getting away from stop sign. See where your cruising RPM is. My bike has a sweet spot and if I rode it on the road a lot I would set my gearing for that. 14/41 will make it rather peppy. Might actually get a wheelie with a bit of a try.

Pictures I use Image Shack. I believe I pay a yearly fee but the site works OK.
