#1 Post by giron » Wed Jun 30, 2021 2:17 pm

I saw this add in Wisconsin. Now it shows up in LA, but from Massachusetts

The fellow has been texting me since he purchased them - a common aquaintance put us in touch.
from pics/conversation I'm pretty sure not a scam. Just an excited guy who got in deeper than he should have as he doesn't want to personally rebuild an engine etc.
It sounds like the sale of the 2nd bike, missing barrels etc etc from engine fell through, so maybe a good candidate for a big bore conversion can be had.

Thanks. The original add with the parts bike sold. Then that's the deal it fell through. The price is not bad for two bikes. Their is a guy in LA selling an RZ500 engine for $8K

A banshee/rz big bore in the parts bike could be interesting.

You can get close to 80 at the rear wheel with a big bore RGV engine...way easier than changing mounts and everything else for a Yamaha engine.

True with what you are saying, but the VJ22 engine to my understanding is known for a weak crank. I was bringing VJ22 swingarms when they were affordable. The shops in Japan would tell me. A customer would walk away from the VJ22 once they found out the cost of replacing the crank. It was funny that the shops did not want to bother taking the wheel off. They would sell me the swingarms with a wheel and brakes. Those were the good old days.

Now the RZ350 engine is way more reliable.

The cost (and availability) was why I thought of the 350 engine swap. Selling the 500 cases would make the project cheaper still.
If one wanted to get crazy, a Maynard style combine two 500 mx engines monster would be something to see.

a VJ21A frame with an RZ350 engine. The VJ21A frame comes with the rails is an aluminum frame and more important no need to do any bracing like on an old antiquated RZ350 frame. Lets face it most of the users in this forum are not Valentino Rossi. If Yamaha thought that the RZ350 frame was going to crack than they would have dome the bracing on the frame. Now on your suggestion as neat as it sound is a way of day dreaming

very nice much better frames than the RZ350 frame. When you use frames like these with proper engine mounts. No need for RZ350 frame bracing is a waist of time
