Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees

#1 Post by SimonLC » Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:57 pm

I have just recently found out after doing balancer shaft mod that every single RD500LC produced had the upper crank timing slightly out by 2.5 degrees. This can be rectified by fitting a offset keyway. Anybody else heard about this?

Well known fact. A member did sell offset keys in the past.

You can adjust timing between cranks with the Zeel ignition.

A Zeel can not correct the physical timing problem with the cranks only the time when spark occurs. In any hot rod 500 engine its a good idea to consider correcting it.

Sorry not replied as I have had internet problems this week!

As Bill states plus others, its always better to sort out the mechanical timing.

Yes sure no problem, I can get a few more offset keys made in a week or two.
So could you please send a PM then I can sort a list out of numbers so I can then go the engineers shortly.

Many thanks for that.

Thanks for that. I will add your name to the list
I will give a few other people a few days to contact me however by Friday 15th or Monday 18th I will go the the engineers 25 miles away, but hes very very good!
I take a spare rear crank and primary gear so that the keys are all test fitted when being made.

Regarding the offset key
I would advise that everyone check/measure the timing and not just fit the key without checking first.
I have had 4 engines and all were out by 2.5 degrees but I would advise everyone to check their engine first!
I hope that makes sense.

Once I have been to the engineers I will contact everyone to give an up date.
Usually takes a week or two depending on how busy they are.

Many thanks

Best regards
Johnny C
