Random pictures rain soaked Barber Vintage Racing

#1 Post by rz500guytexas » Sun Oct 18, 2020 12:00 pm

Hurricane and all but racing went on. Watching those old bikes on the skinny little tires was frightning. Lots of crashes and mechanical issues. We were all soaked by Sunday. Sunday morning I came in and so many canopies had collapsed after collecting water from heavy rain after everyone settled in for the night. Got to see some really well prepped bikes and some a bit iffy. Thursday and Friday was great weather. Second picture is Glen who was riding the silver TZ and the owner Mike on the right. Glen siezed number two bike on Friday but number one bike did well. There is an image here of another newer TZ that is beautifully prepped and fast as heck. They mix the bikes in different waves so always interesting. The 160 Hondas is a big class and they did a Lemans start. Glen road in the 160 class, open two strokes, and did a few gigs on and old sidecar. Made me feel good to see some of the older riders still going at it. Thinking about joining AHRMA next year since I am done working. They have 7 races I believe with the first at Daytona. Have to do racing school first.

I dont know which I thought was worse, riding a 250 on slicks in rain, or eventually getting a second set of wheels and tires and having to change them as the weather changed.

Wow...That was a lot of deep standing water! Looks like you made the most of it and had a good time anyway .

No riding for me. Just helped the guy I went to meet and roamed the pits helping with tire stand, tire warmers, and generally getting in peoples way. Some of the older guys were a bit grumpy. Hope I do not get that way. If someone wants to help i am appreciatve. Hope to join them next year with the TZ. The 500 would be in a much more competitive class.

"Older guys were a bit grumpy"
Maybe the more time you've spent in soaking wet leathers in chilly weather, unable to see the bike in front of you let alone standing water or the next corner .... not so much age but experience?

So true. That was a lot of water. At least the incidents were slower. Was still a lot of fun and met some good people.
