Its the pneumonia that does people in.

Better bet is to try avoid infection at all cost. And if you do get infected hope to fuck you don't get to the hospitalization stage.

Looks like about an 8% mortality rate -- but that's 8% of the infected... but that 8% closer to 90% of the hospitalized infected.

8%?
I guess it depends where.
US has been under 3%, worldwide under 6%.
Of course it depends on % tested, and how you count.
France took a big jump when they included nursing home deaths, which they had been excluding. Their Logic being if someone is going to die soon anyway...why count them.
So all numbers are problematic.
Will probably need to compare total deaths by year, Adjusted for accident etc to get anything close to accurate for anywhere.

Not to argue the number, it is still far higher than the 0.1% death rate of the seasonal flu. I believe after all is said and done it will be above 7%.
But the precise number is not as important as the fact that close to 90% of those hospitalized that go on ventilators don't make it out alive.

The message from the medical folks on the front line in the hospitals is very grim. Lots of actual first hand reports on YouTube.

I think far too much energy and resources are being expended on "the cheap respirator" and not enough on providing the masses with reasonably useful PPE.

And more accurate information needs to be made available to these same masses.
If a cloth covering will prevent COViD-19 carrying spittle from getting into your lungs then it stands to reason your clothes and hair are contaminated by that same COViD-19 carrying spittle when you visit WalMart.

IOW we should be changing clothes and washing them when we get home - we need to be wiping down our car seats after a trip to the Home Depot.

I just spent the last 2 days at hospital with my 69 year old father, watching him die of pneumonia brought on due to his treatment for throat cancer. They said a ventilator would only prolong his suffering. They tested him for Covid but he was negative. He die this morning at 11:09 and let me tell you if you ever had to watch someone die due to lung failure, it is awful.

This needs to be taken seriously, Covid 19!

I was not even allowed in the hospital here in Canada to visit him until he was on his death bed. We had to wear the same ppe that you see on the news, just to be in the ward. Doctor said to have your wife put a change of clothes outside for you and don’t even wear the hospital worn clothes in the house, and wash them right away.

This was the Cancer Ward, not the Covid ward! Very scary!

Verry sorry you had to see that with your Dad. I've seen it plenty of times in the years I worked in SICU. Now, I'm Stage 4 and hoping I don't have to suffer in horrible agony when my time comes.

My condolences to you, brother.

RIP Judge.

Thank you Smoker, I appreciate that. I have been following your builds on the 350 side as well and I wish you the best. I know you have been to hell and back already and I wish you the best!

I told my wife that if I go first, please don’t let me suffer, as it is so hard to watch.

Take Care Pete. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Not positive, but I believe the most likely cause of death from cabrona virus is due to ARDS (and more specifically, pulmonary edema), leading quickly to sepsis.

My non-scientific observations are that if you are old and fat (or immunocompromised, like me)- your chances of survival are VERY questionable.
If you're in reasonably good health, you don't have to worry about getting sick.

Looks like the economic disaster is where the real suffering will occur. :smt010

By my amateur reckoning ARDS is the mechanism and pneumonia is the cause.

Either way, the disease (COViD-19) is ravaging people across the spectrum. Some are higher risk but considering even generally healthy people can get pneumonia at some point in their life.

From my perspective I would like to avoid infection as a first line of defense.

My condolences.
As I've lost father and brother from lung cancer I can second that this is neither the quick nor the peaceful kind of passing we all wish for.
Bye
Martin
