Which ignition curve does it have? 47X or 1GE?

Why should I try a fixed curve CDI for almost 300 bucks when I can have a fully programmable CDI and PV box for the same amount?

I went back through their pages, and you could choose either. They also had pick up coils and various other items. For other bikes too.

I've never heard of these people before so was wondering if anybody else had.

My bike is a 100% stock, and I may be having some CDI issues. Everything else is checking out OK. While I recognise the advantages of something like a Zeeltronic, I would prefer my bike to stay that way :)

From a statistical point of view I doubt the stock CDI is faulty. Since 1987 I've been working on many RD350's and I only came across one defective CDI. (And the RD500 is built the same way)
Often a simple unplug / plug made it work again. Mostly it was the stator source coils.

If you still feel you need it, what could go wrong if they accept PayPal? In case it doesn't work, use the buyer protection, but take care if the item maybe excluded (here in Europe they don't cover vehicle purchases).

You can get the CDi repaired if you want stock....or just buy another used one.

Best to borrow one to see if your problem goes away. Then you can decide what to do once you know exactly what you are dealing with.

Pretty sure I have one of these very devices in the garage and I believe they were made by a Belgian company called Weiltronic. When I finished my rebuild after the bike was assembled from the boxes it had lived in for years, I could not get a spark. Assuming my CDi had failed I got one of these. It turned out to be a pickup coil problem and the original CDi was fine. To be fair it was the Technical man (Willy) from Weiltronic that helped me fix the spark issue with both CDI's.

As a plug and play CDI it worked fine and on the road you would struggle to tell it from the yamaha unit. It did have a couple of annoying features 1) When you turned the ignition off the engine carried on running for a seconds or so, 2) the cable was a little short, but still usable.

I switched back to the Yamaha CDI because I found issue 1) a little annoying.

I believe Weiltronic make CDI's for a number of bikes and the RD500 unit is still listed with aftermarket suppliers like Wemoto.

If anybody wants one of these units I can offer a tested used one for a very good price.

I agree. I had grounding issues that caused my ignition problems.

OK, Silverstrom has a good idea to try one. Will check my pickup coil too. Seems to be only one cylinder, bottom left with the issue.

If it's only on one cylinder I would be a little surprised if it's the CDI or pickup coil as the system does not work down to cylinder level, producing 50% wasted sparks (if I remember correctly).

Have you checked the coils as the connection for the HT leads rot away. Again from memory you can easily check this with the test procedure in the manual.

I hope my memory is working, if not sure somebody will fill in the gaps.

Paul
