Well, Im taking a risk here, posting about Honda's and 4 Strokes on a 2 stroke yamaha forum...

I brought home 4 Honda VF1000R's on Friday. One is near mint, the other 3 should make one good one. Came with a trailer and truck full of parts (including a set of NOS Carbs, NOS Seat, 4 sets of bodywork etc). One of the parts bikes has brand new tires , new chain and sprockets too.

Plan is to build the euro version from the spares bikes.

So I'm at work today and bump into the service guy from one of our suppliers. We always have a chat about bikes, first time I met him he told me he'd just ridden a BMW GS650 from Ontario to Tierra del Fuego and back. Today he told me he'd sold his VFR1000 and started naming all the cool bikes the guy who bought it had. I said, 'Oh, you sold it to Dave up near North Bay', and he said ' how the hell do you know that?'
He referred to the bike as 'The Furnace'.

LOL what a small world. He told me about the ride to Tierra del Fuego.

He mentioned he repaired "robots" for factories and industrial plants etc. Seemed like a decent chap.

A progress picture or three...
Just the carbs to strip and rebuild now, then the mechanical side of the bike will be done, after that its on to the bodywork.

engine into newly powder coated frame, with these bikes, its easiest to remove the frame from the engine and when rebuilding, to place the frame around the engine, the engine weighs over 200lbs and does not maneuver well in or out of a rolling chassis. removing one of these from a rolling chassis is little more than a controlled fall.

local shop did a nice job on the seat

just the carbs and a wee bit of wiring left to do

Thanks, yea lots of time for sure. The carbs will be interesting, I have a couple of sets to rebuild, so ill do one set at a time and ensure I keep one set intact for reference, I have a feeling photos and notes won't be enough with these carbs.

Ha ha, yeah, tons of parts. I used to do V65 magna carbs all the time for customers, and got pretty handy with them. The biggest pain in the ass was just trying to get them to go back into the carb boots! It took a can of WD40, a heat gun, and a prybar to coax them back into place.

They were hard to get out of the boots for sure. Boots were like rock, no give in them, so I just put new boots on. I use silicone spray and a heat gun + a tip on re installation I got off youtube, we will see how it goes.

Was the tip to take all 4 boots off the motor side and just let them sit there while you position the carbs over them and push all 4 on at one time?

It was more the angle of the carbs, seating the front ones in a certain way then popping the rear ones in, id have to look at the video again to be sure -------- looked again, your right its the one with the boots off the manifolds

I would like to contact your seat repair guy. That's the best recover I've seen in a while.
