Another what a Pair!

#1 Post by ns86 » Mon Jun 04, 2018 6:36 pm

40 years old! Just picked these up with the second one not quite as near perfect. Both all Original except for brand new tracks and sliders. Best one needs a handlebar cover and a slight bumper tweak.Image

Wow, those were well stored. The condition of the seats and windscreens are incredible for the age. If you are ever in Barrie stop in at St Onge Recreation near Dunlop and Hwy 400, they have a showroom in the back with a loft full of restored vintage sleds that you can go up an have a look at.

Boy, seeing those brings me back to the 81 Super Sonic that I had. That 340 really screamed!

Moto Ski was acquired by Bombardier in 1971 and within a few years all the machines were identical to the SkiDoo models other than some of the models had different hoods/windshields. That makes them rarer than the SkiDoo version but also makes it harder to find cosmetics like windshields and hoods! The Nuvik being the same as the Olympic.

.

Silverstroms friend Straycat had an amazing collection of Sonic/RV's he restored. My brother's friend had a SnoPro Blizzard Rotary Valve 250 Rotax in the old days. A staggered chassis oval racer that had an output on par with a TZ250. I have photo's somewhere I will try to find.

My brother used to plow this track for his friend on Callander Bay, Lake Nipissing. I think I took these photos early 1980's

Nice find on the Nuvic's dan, those babies will go almost anywhere, nice and light and manoeuvrable.

They are a blast to ride podman. The new ones are just madness. My son and I have the new Ski-doo 850cc 2 strokes. 165hp (they usually dyno at 170+).

Here is my son ripping it up this past winter, this is a bone stock "Ski-doo Freeride" geared and clutched for deeper snow riding with a 2.5" lug track. (my 850cc "Renegade" is more civilized for trail riding, im not as young as I used to be)

Thanx Dave. Perfect for the grandkids as they grow up. The beauty of having your own trails on your own land as you know!

And Skiroule as well as Allouette. I remember him racing a Skiroule at the North Bay Winter Fur Carnival in the early 1970's. He designed/built the IFS Twintrack midengined Allouette mostly himself. Used to see him racing Formula Atlantic at Mosport in the Direct Film sponsored car. I'll never forget watching him push the Ferrari in the wet at Watkin's Glen. Awesome talent and a great loss.

Yes, I know the fellow who has one of his Skiroule sleds. The hunt for one of Gilles Allouette twin-trackers is still going on, its the subject of great folk-law in the sled collector community

Wow, no I hadnt seen that Dan, what are the chances eh.

If it's the real deal, that would be the find of the decade.

A guy thought he'd found one a few years ago but it turned out to be a "Manta" custom modified to look like GV's twin track Allouette
