Hi folks never owned a 500 v4 whanted to know how difficult it was to bump start one and is it a legal requirement to have a kick start for uk mot
Quite often bump started my ducati 900ss when i had let the battery run to low wasn't the easiest and i do remember getting some assistance from passing kids

Fueled up they are over 200kg (a little less for the RZV ) depending on many factors it could be easy or almost impossible to bump. Why would you not want to use the kick start ?

Unless you are very big and very strong bump starting the 500 V4 will very quickly get tiring. After a couple of tries it will be the bike bump starting you. Install the kicker and save your strength, and breath.
There is another benefit of having the kicker. You can slowly turn the engine over to make sure the cylinders aren't full of fuel. The petcock is highly prone to leaking and the float valves as well. If you have fuel in a cylinder and then try to bump start it you will bend a connecting rod when it hydraulic locks.

since the petcock is prone to leaking on the RZ500. It will be a good idea to replace the gas outlets under the tank with a TZR250 3MA under the tank petcock for extra precaution.

Yes, but it's not exactly practical for a road bike unless you have very thin arms and are double jointed at the wrist and elbow.giron wrote:since the petcock is prone to leaking on the RZ500. Bump starting would baffle a lot of drivers if you stalled it in some traffic...!

you don't need thin arms. when the bike will be stored for a few days. The tank lifts up like the hood of a car.
