EBAY Seller Tactics.

#1 Post by ns86 » Tue Sep 19, 2017 3:03 pm

Just passing on an experience with a seller I have not experienced before. I won several bids on a rz500 auction a few weeks ago. The seller had a mistake on the shipping fee to the tune of $7500.00 US. I got a good deal and was hoping to complete the purchase. I repeatedly asked the seller to correct the charge to the $75.00 it should have been to no avail. Tried repeatedly but no correction. He filed an unpaid item claim since I wasn't about to pay that amount. Today the seller cancelled the transaction and I had 4 unpaid item strikes against me. Talked to Ebay about it, cleared my record and they are going after the seller for not correcting the mistake as they are obligated to do. My items are now relisted for much more than I paid. Seems a cunning tactic. If the seller doesn't get a good price for an item, just charge a ridiculous amount for shipping. The buyer won't pay it and the purchase will be cancelled with blame going against the buyer! The Sellers only comment was "I did not see anything wrong with your order" Buyer Beware!

Did you call eBay when the shipping cost mistake was first noticed and the seller refused to change it?

Who is the seller, so we know who to avoid?

The seller didn't happen to be from Wisconsin by chance?

I won a $7.00 RD350LC side cover from machivmotors on eBay ( from Wisconsin ) , he asked me $75.00 for shipping . I wrote him to cancel the sale as I would not pay that amount for shipping and he did .

Take a look at his RZ500 completed auctions , all sold to the last bolt at ridiculous prices with a surprising number of bidders . This is what we call bid shilling , bidding on your own items with multiples I.D. , always the same buyers . I summed up all his RZ500 sales lately and it totalled $20 000. at least from one parted 1/2 bike .

If you want to sell some parts , you can't rely anymore on eBay to get an idea of their value.

I've had the exact same experience from Machivmotors too. They seem to be able to push everything I bid on right to my max bid. I've long since thought there was something fishy going on there, and will not bid on their stuff anymore. I also have noticed the same frames having been sold up to three times.

EBay doesn't care. All they care about is their 10% selling fee. As long as the fees are paid sellers are free to screw you over. You can complain, but nothing will be done.

With any eBay transaction it is essential to get the shipping cost BEFORE bidding if it says "shipping not specified". If the seller won't provide it when you ask, and sleazy bastards like Machivmotors often won't, then you should not be bidding on the item.

Same seller. I did call Ebay when I tried to pay and saw the amount. They said to wait until the Seller cancelled the transaction and any marks against me would be removed.

But you don't get what you bought and he isn't forced to do the right thing. As usual, eBay could care less. That guy does 1000 sales/month. eBay gets their cut of each one and for that 10% they ignore buyer concerns and problems. As long as they get the money the wheel is greased and it keeps rolling.

Had this experience twice on ebay, different sellers...
I was bidding within the last 5sec (a value like 37,98€... maybe 20€ over the actual bid)

It was a bit funny... I won the auction in both cases, but there was one other bidder who placed his bid milliseconds before the end 50cent below mine with one try .
In the end my maximum bid was the end price.

Since then I`m not interested in bidding on ebay anymore.

1) I`m using ebay only as a shop with fixed prices
2) If possible I try to find out if the sellers have online shops outside of ebay. If yes I`m buying from this shop.

The answer is only buy fixed price or best offer items and only if shipping is specified in the sale listing.
