Yeah, me too! Shouting at the TV! Excellent. I thought he was going to be pipped on the line but he hung on.

It was getting close in the end and Johnny kept both his hands on the bars unlike everyone else

Re: Congratulations Johnny!
Well, yes. Johnny had less wind resistance, shall we say, than the guy in 2nd!

Re: Congratulations Johnny!
Hi Chaps,
Thanks for all the comments;
I had a great weekend at Cadwell Park.
All the old friends from 1982 were there having a laugh, but were all deadly serious once on track & then best of mates back in the paddock, good times!
I hadn’t been to Cadwell since 1991 so I was a bit rusty!
Most of the other riders had done track days & 2 are instructors there so I was on the back foot a bit.
I was still learning the lines through "Charlie’s 1 & 2" even during the second race! & I just about had it right on lap 2 so was quite pleased with the exit on to Park straight.
I qualified in damp conditions in second position for the first race so quite happy, but knew it was going to be much tougher in the race.
Race one was not great, but ok.
Charlie Corner got by and pulled out a few bike lengths then Pete Jennings did the same, (he was really flying) but he ended in tears by binning it at the Hairpin (not hurt), by that time Charlie had about 8 seconds on me so settled for 2nd place but was getting better learning the circuit after all these years, plus the fact, half of these guys still race regularly.
The second race was a reverse grid to make it more interesting for the spectators; we all thought it was going to be fun but “carnage” at the end of the back straight into Park corner.
So Charlie Corner & myself lined up on the back row, for the start, buy the first corner I was about 5th then at the second corner Alan Carter came under me into “Charlie’s 1” and stood me up, while Charlie Corner was going round the outside, interesting times!
So onto the back straight and about 4 abreast breaking into Park, luckily I came out in fourth?, and know one went down.
We exchange places for a couple of laps then I managed to get the lead & got a small break, however I got a bit excited on the last lap at after Park corner as I missed the right apex going into the Gooseneck so ran onto the left kerb which then slowed the run down to Mansfield, then cocked up Mansfield by panicking as went in a gear too high so lost drive out to the chicane, so I knew it was going to be tight then but just managed to hang on from Pete Jennings. The race time for the second race was over 6 seconds quicker than the first race so we were all really pushing on.
Pete Jennings was very gracious by saying he was quicker in the slow parts ie Mansfield to the start line, however he said I was quicker the rest of the track on the faster turns, so I thought that was a nice thing to say, a very honest rider.
As for both hands on the bars, the bikes don’t have a steering damper & are a bit twitchy so I daren’t take one hand off, as I am "slightly built" & not very strong !
Good fun on the podium as even though I was on the top step I was still the smallest!
Leathers need cleaning now as Pete Boast emptied a bottle of Chamagne inside my leathers, down the back of my neck, cheers!
I got to meet up with Roger Marshall and a few other ex racers.
A weekend out!
However I still havent managed to see either of the races on the TV as yet as my mates all watched it but forgot to record it, (plonkers).
Just hope I get an invitation to the next race when ever it is.
Going to the Classic TT on Thursday to help out Robbie Silvesters team, then take part in the Lap of Honour Parade Lap on Monday the 28th I will be riding my Spondon TTF1 Yamaha 500 bike.
I hope I havent bored you too much.
Here are a few photos from the weekend.
Best regards
Johnny C.
