Luis Salom was involved in a fatal crash at Turn 12 in Barcelona during Moto2™ Free Practice 2.

Off all things, he freakishly "barely" missed the gravel trap and followed his bike into the airfence at full speed compressing against his bike. It is said he immediately went into cardiac arrest.
His injuries were deemed to severe to transport by air, during transport they rapidly did try "many" procedures to open up his airways and to restart his heart, but to no avail.

i thought it was great that they went on with race with the family's blessing. And Mr. Marquez went up a few notches in my book when he switched his number on his bike after the race finished. And Rossi and Marquez shaking hands and patting each other on the shoulders in the interview tells how real the racing is at that level. We all have a shelf life and glad he lived it well.
