Thanks guys.

Yes, considering the procedure done, that's not too bad. Pain is quite low now, so on with the healing. Started the antibiotics several hours ago. If it gets infected I'm in trouble as I have no immune system. If coffee and pie is the answer I'll be fine. Pie fixes everything.

6 weeks in a cast will mean a lot of coffee and pie. I may need new riding pants come spring. I'll get them when I buy a smaller left boot.

John, That's looking pretty good considering the cut doesn't get much air and is covered in cast... Yeah I'm sure it will be painful around the incision area and will be until the skin mends and then some physio for the foot... Last thing you want now is any type of infection...

...and heads up the kick ass antibiotics can beat you up a bit. I had an appendix blow up about 10 years ago and getting over the surgery was a breeze compared to the stuff they gave me to prevent peritonitis.
mmmmm pie.

Cast #3 removed today and ran into some trouble. It is now infected, which was always a risk due to my compromised immune system. Right away the surgeon said he may have to remove the plate. Staying on antibiotics and seeing him again 08 Nov. Hopefully things improve long before then. He didn't put another cast one, which is a relief. Just have to wait now and hope this current wrap doesn't turn into the mess that was under today's cast. I swear it smelled like a dead cat mid summer. Gross is an understatement. I have now stopped taking both immunosuppressants, so one problem feeds another. I remain optimistic. This sitting around all day is driving me mad.

Well that suck's John, but that seems to be the way things work these days, one step forward and then two steps back, no pun intended...
Yeah, glad to hear that your remaining optimistic, I'm sure this is kind of the norm and will all work out in the end... The hard part would be the sitting around doing nothing, I'd be the same way John, especially this time of year as we need to get things ready for winter, etc... Keep thinking on the positive side on this matter... At least your foot is out of the cast so that's moving towards the goal... Hopefully they get the infection under control and seeing how your body has reacted to this will help in a more speeder recovery of the next... Keep us posted buddy... Loved your description of the cast removal smell...

I actually reused that at lunch at work today to describe something similar and several people nearly lost it in your honour. Hope for a positive outcome. Good Luck!

Sitting around doing nothing while I recover has been driving me mad. These arrived last week and have been helping me pass the time.

I forgot about those docs. I'll get at it. Thanks!

The foot feels much better, so I'm hopeful that issue is resolved. I see the surgeon again Tuesday.

Yesterday the surgeon examined the foot and all is well. It no longer smells like a feline cadaver and the skin is no longer sliding off. Yea me. Wrapped up for another 2 weeks and then back to see the doc. Starting to walk now with very little pain, so well on the road to recovery. At this point it appears, beyond all explanation, that I am healing much faster than anticipated and faster than more able bodied folks with healthy immune systems. Then again, perhaps that is due to the fact that the arthritis was so painful the recovery pales in comparison. Whatever the case, I'm grateful.

Still limited in what I can accomplish here so I found this to occupy more time.

Burt Munro says, "you live more in 5 minutes on a bike like this going flat out than most people live in a lifetime."

Consider that the next time someone asks you why you play with your bike.

That is so true, nothing like being flat out on a fast bike...
Reminds me of the first time I had opened up my 85 RZ500 after break in back when I was like 26-27yrs old, gave me the holy sh_t, wow I love this factor... I got that feeling as well when I raced open class motocross on the first liquid cooled Honda CR500's... Way more power then needed but work amazing on tracks that you could open her up...
Anyways, that's awesome news John, that your well on your way to recovery and now you and your dr. know what works best for you... This should help with recovery time to get this done and over with...
