New RD500 Owner - UK
I am one excited boy...bought an RD500 yesterday..italian import bike, had a look at several bikes in the last few weeks, the build quality wasnt high on these to start with eh and many UK bikes had quite badly rusted frames, from what I saw, even the higher mileage imports are in far better overall condition.
Being 16 and riding an MTX50 when the bikes came out, the impact seeing one on the road for the first time was huge...I cant quite believe I now own one.
I need a few bits to make it 100%, which ill get over time but I think all the key items are on it to start with, the recored mileage (as the say) cannot be taken as genuine but it has recorded just over 600km, from what I could make out, it appears to be genuine but ive bought it on its overall condition.
Im particulary interested in a seat cowl, the ally screws that hold on said cowl, stone guard and fixings.quite possibly the bike never had a stone guard fitted? ..from a search it seems everyone else wants these items as well!
Ive also a RD350LC alongside this, I think I spotted one or two familar usernames from those forums.
Any comments/observations welcome.
Cheers.

Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Hello Podman
looks like a nice bike in the photographs as far as can see. Seat cowls are like rocking horse s_ _ t, the screws do come up occasionally as do ones in stainless steel versions. The belly pan stone guard itself is quite readily available on ebay but the bar/clip that runs along the top do seem very few and far between. I have had one fall out on its own accord once never to be found again so now I have zip tied it in position.
Hope you enjoy riding the bike when you get her on the road, roll on spring although if it stays mild like it is at the moment and they do not start salting the roads why wait till spring.
Rich.

Thanks Rich...do you have a link at all to the stainless versions? Any will do to cover up the holes...im also missing a circular piece of plastic trim around the seat lock, shame as the seat is otherwise mint, any ideas on that?
Noted re the bar, we'll have some fun finding that I guess!

Nice looking bike.
The seat lock trims come up on ebay quite a bit - it might even be worth checking with Yamaha 47X-24796-00 - I think they're still available new - should be cheaper than this one........

The above ebay dealer tends to be expensive but is nice to deal with and has lots of RD500 stuff.
There is a seat hump and pad available on ebay at the moment - but it is very expensive ! ..........

The stainless seat hump screws are very heavy btw ! - I think there are some aluminium ones available - but again the originals aren't too rare on ebay.
Cheers

Hello
Had a look at the database and it looks like it was a German spec bike.(it has the decal on the left hand frame rail about the fuel tank vent and the side stand goes up with the weight off it)
Germany had a lot of unsold stock which was moved to other counties to sell. The UK had some of this stock and most were repainted in Marlboro colours by Dream Machine.

Thats really useful, thanks Steve. From what I have read, no European bikes where restricted?jackson.40 wrote:Hello

The stand is bloody horrible, that will be one of the first items on the list to go..or is it a case of taking off an additional spring to be left, hopefully, with a "normal" stand?
Cheers.

Re: New RD500 Owner - UK
Stone guards for the belly pan are still available, i bought one for ~80€ last year.
Don`t buy this part for 150€ used on Ebay
Just the bracket and the rubber pieces are not available anymore.
