500 RDLC parts

#1 Post by sergio90 » Mon Dec 27, 2010 6:23 pm

Hi, I'm French and sorry for my bad English ! Very interesting site for fans of V4. Many beautiful things. Since 6 years, I'm working on my project on base 500 RDLC. I make all my parts and soon, for some, they will be available on the market. I have attached some pictures.
Best regards,

Sergio, your parts look great ! I assume that the bearings and connecting rod are Yamaha pieces? The center seal looks original too. I am curious about the plastic piece inside the reed valve. I have not seen this before. Would this create a venturi effect, for better atomization, or is it something else?
Sincerely, Gary P.

Lugh is an Irish or Celtic ancient deity, isn't he?

Hi,

Garry, it's exactly. The plastic parts are accelerating gas costs and bring better filling. They exist for the original reed valves 500 RDLC or 350 RDLC 31 K mounted on the 500. On the crankshaft, the centerpiece isn't an original part, 2 seals are mounted inside.

Bye.

I admire the time invested in designing and machining the parts. Time well spent.

I hope that you can accept some remarks though:

1. PV covers. From the pictures I think that you copied the original design around the bolt protrusion, which has a radius about 5 mm. That makes the wall thin and cause the protrusion to break. I think that it easy to modify the design and increase the radius to 7-8 mm.

2. Front cylinder carb spacer. You copied again the original design and make the reed side wall very thin (judging again from the picture). If you add about 2-3 mm to the side walls you would allow the use of Banshee or RZ350 (RD350YPVS) reeds. These reeds share the same bolt pattern as RZ500.

I repeat that is a very well executed machine job.

@ Alex: Why don't you machine your own adapter plate for the generator and pick up coils and use an adjustable DC-CDI?

Several bikes of the early middle 90s had minimalistic generators and several aftermarket DC-CDI units are available now.
