Garfield's RZV500r 51X
Well here goes. The brief history goes like this....I bought this one in much the same was as 1 or 2 others on the site, from the Lad in Bristol when the bunch of RZV's arrived from Japan. the bike and I remaind in seperate countries for over a year and so she sat and gathered dust !
Then August 2009 we were united and promises of much TLC were made.

The bike was complete (all plastics not shown) approx 7000km's ,the engine ran and seemed to rev ok..and other then for a very short couple of runs on a short quite piece of road the bike accounted for itself. The obvious work list started to look like this.....
Replace or repaint the bodywork. Or even end up doing both options in different colours
Rebuild the forks (maybe Maxton)
Replace the rear shock (open to options)
De restrict
Figure why the rev counter didnt work
Update the brake lines
Replace the brake pads and /or skim the disc's
Chain and sprockets
Powder coat the rims
New tyres.
Anything major discovered while doing the above...
The overall aim was to return the bike to a safe roadworthy condition, it was to be a garage queen...BUT.. a WORKING garage queen. One that would be given a "seeing to" on a regular basis and pampered a little afterwards. The RZV was to share garage space with the other evil bitch the RG500....which gets treated much the way i have described. I believe the bikes should be enjoyed while being enjoyed by others who see them on the road. In other words concours or factory new is not what i am after. Just simple clean and well turned out.
to the story..... weeks go by and the weather turns bad...nights get short and the cramped shed I was using became impossible to work in. A plan was required and dispensation was required from "on high". Suggestions were made regarding the unused cornor of the kitchen and moans made about old knees' and backs. RESULT.....space was obtained in the kitchen and endless coffee and tea on demand were made use of. End result was slightly more spanner work then i intended.

So the complete bike is now in a number of sub assemblies, boxed and marked for attention one at a time. I'm still feeling ok at this point...confident and happy that at least all her "little parts" would at least get a good clean and grease.
Frame cleaned up and electrical loom cleaned of grot and grime.
Then came the engine for a "quick" looking at.

Now its at this point I got to thinking how can I ...of limited abilities (mechanical, time and money) make this more interesting for me and everyone else, while getting this project across the finish line as expected, and at the same time trying to get something back into the community. So...fellow forum members, i throw this project open to all of you for your input and experience. Bearing in mind my original requiements (simple, clean and tidy). Anything anyone has to add to this project is welcome to throw their hat in the ring. And in return i hope others gain form our collective project.
In the meantime...and while its in pieces...if there are any parts anyone would like pictured for reference please ask...I'll be happy to put the images up. Further if there are any parts needed for a loan...ie to machine a batch from original ....again I'm sure we can arrange same.
And so my 1st query...will i post individual questions and problems here on this thread or start a new one under an appropriate heading in each section.?

If I stripped my bike like that , I would be crapping myself! I would def end up with a dozen nuts and bolts left over - or worst left in the engine to rattle about!!! Mind you, would be great for a car boot saleRZ_BOTT wrote:Just done the pics for you hopefully
