So far I've put about 80 miles on it with no major issues. I know people have differing opinions but how many miles should I run it in for? I was aiming for 300ish. Usual thing, don't load up too much etc...

I've replaced cranks, pistons, rings, small end etc....

Cheers

Pete
Great news Pete, enjoy every moment, 200-300 sounds like the right amount

Cracking job looks better than new. I prefer the black/red colours to the UK red/white, the new paint looks great

It is a good looking one isn't it?

As I have said before, these stock restorations are really awesome to see come to fruition.

Thanks for all your support and kind words.

I've now done around 120 miles so far running the engine in. This weekend is supposed to be great weather so looking forward to getting some more miles on it.

Three main points I've noticed so far.

1. They don't like being ridden slowly.
2. Front end seems really bouncy. Might have to increase fork oil weight to improve damping. Is that the right thing to do?
3. Bogs a bit on pull away. Pilots are stock 22.5's at present.

Other than that all seems fine so far.

Another 120 miles today, so 240ish in total now. Should have it run in tomorrow.

Hit a false neutral today and ended up red-lining it :???:

Your heart skips when you accidental nail it in a false neutral doesn't it?

I cringe when it happens. I don't think it hurts the bike too much but it sure 'feels' painful

Now got about 700miles under my belt after the restore. No issues as yet. The bike is 100% finished now. 6years and 4 months after buying it and stripping.

As you can see. I joined this forum the day I brought it home, 10 March 2006!

Here a few pics of before.

Hello Pete
very nice looking piece of kit, long time doing but well worth it. Lets hope we now have a nice long Indian summer so you can get out and really enjoy using it, congratulations. Rich.
