The long part to the pedal is included in the repair kit - bought it one mont ago.
The casted part is as far as i know the same on the RD350 (and i think 100 other Yamaha bikes)

The Japanese were not very creative with rear brakes - a while ago we compared the rear brake caliper of a 1992 Honda Dominator 500 and a ~2006 Yamaha R6 => it was the same :smt003

Hi ,

Long time I didn't come here !
First I wish everybody an happy new year !!

During all these months I continued working on the v4 and it is time to close it
I searched in the forum about liquid gasquet and get answers with threebond 1215, 1104, 1194...

It want to use 1194, but it seems that the 1194 is replaced by the TB1184.
Does somebody already use it ?

Thanks
Francis

ps I will put pictures of progress very soon...

I use TB1215 because
- It`s the sealant which is used by Ducati
- It`s the sealant recommended/used by Yamaha (RD500 service manual, Yamaha part number 90890-85505)
https://www.cmsnl.com/products/bond-121 ... DpclbgdPCY

TB1215 has a quite hight viscosity (20 according to TB) which makes it easy to get the perfect amount of sealant onto the flange.
Just put it onto the flange and distribute it with the finger.
After one day it`s like rubber.

I don`t know the TB11XX but according to the homepage the TB1184 has a lower viscosity than the 1215 (10).
For me this would be the first reason not to use it because I like the high viscosity of the 1215.
And the 1184 is "semi drying" whatever this means.

Hi Speed Freak,

Sorry for late answer, business travel this week.
Thanks for detailled information, I'm going to buy 1215 to be able to start closing the engine soon.
Anyway, right now I hope to restart my CB250K2 this weekend if not too cold and windy.
I never heard the CB, I bought it almost 20 years ago, the bike was already stopped since a period around 1985/1990.
Let's say 30 years ago

Have good WE

1184 is semi drying and is what should be used for sealing cases. That is what it is designed for. It doesn't harden. It is called Three Bond 1184 Case Sealant Liquid Gasket for a reason.

1215 is silicone based and should not be used for sealing cases. It can be used for other things like reed gaskets, but it is not meant to seal cases halves.

The rd500 manual clearly says "apply yamaha bond no.1215, 90890-85505 to crankcase matching surface".
Same again in the 1998 R1 manual over 10 years later.

Why is Ducati selling it in special Ducati packaging as engine sealant? Because it's wrong to use it?

I would change my mind if Yamaha engines and all my engines would leak, but they are completely dry.

There are a lot of sealants, they all work somehow.
I have good experience with the 1215 so I will also use it in future.

I'm just pointing out the fact that ThreeBond specifically states that TB1184 is meant to seal case halves. ThreeBond does not make that claim for TB1215.

I'm not here to debate what is right or wrong for any engine builder. Use whatever you want, but in my experience all sealants for 2 stroke case halves are semi-drying and are not silicone based.

Just reading this about...

TB1184:
TB1184 is a visco-elastic semi-drying sealer which is resistant to oil, water, gasoline and chemicals . Application areas include sealing transmission case covers, motorcycle cases, timing chain cases, side covers, 2-piece cylinders, clutch housing bolts and oil filter mounting surfaces. Since it excels in padding properties, it is highly effective in sealing surfaces with poor flatness or large gaps. TB 1184 is a development of the popular liquid gaskets TB1104 and TB1194, and can be used as a direct replacement in all applications. Also known as Yamabond / Hondabond crankcase sealant.

TB1215:
Three Bond TB 1215 is an OEM approved single-component, solvent free and non-acid liquid gasket on RTV-Silicone basis (Room Temperature Vulcanising) with low odour. Within a very short time it forms a rubber-like highly elastic gasket completely adapted to the surface structure of the flange face. ThreeBond 1215 has been designed specifically as an automotive flange sealant with extremely high chemical resistance, for use on gear cases, oil pans and valvecovers. TB 1215 has excellent chemical resistance against gear oil with outstanding mechanical resistance against shear forces. It has excellent adhesion even to slightly polluted surfaces and is extremely fast curing. It provides an instantaneous sealing for pressure and firing test. It is sensor safe and can be used in oil pan sealing; gear case sealing; valve cover sealing and the such like.

Best solution should consist to use both, depending target to be sealed.

Hope you used the 1184. Everyone I know assembles with it. Good product just do not let it freeze and seperate.
