When I built my 500, I realised as it was being built compromises would have to be made
which they were, so I went for the look over function as I originally built it for road use
It worked very well on the road, in fact it was easier to ride than my 748 Ducati
Since I first met you and Wolfgang in Varano, the mistakes (visually) I made were even more apparent to me
At Magione, after Jessica had crashed, I took the 250 out , and was shocked at how it could be thrown about
Jessica said that the 250 was quicker than the 500 !
Hence the nickname for the 500 Big Blue Bus
I tracked the 500 in france with other members of this forum
I was able to stay with the guys in the corners only losing out on the longer straight, need more power less weight
A long standing promise to allow Jeremy to take the 500 out at Brands Hatch happened in 2016
I was out on track at the same time on a super mono, thinking I could watch the 500 from a different perspective
hahahaha I saw it as we exited pit lane , never to see it again, at least I didn't get lapped, the same happened the following day
Now, Jeremy is a very accomplished rider, and I asked for his honest opinion, and I meant be honest
His only criticism was it running out of gears at the end of the straight, and he couldn't believe how light it was (he races a ZX10)
On paper etc it may not work but as Alex has said we are not dealing with GP components
so C of G will be different and many other things etc etc
I do believe I got lucky with my build using the components I did, and what Alex has done is nothing short of amazing
I would be very interested to feel how Alex's bikes ride, I have watched them on track and they appear to work very well
Myself and Jeremy are taking this meeting seriously and we are going to have a real try at winning our class
I have a new bottom end which will be cannibalised to rebuild the 500 and the top will be freshened up
if finances allow programmable ignition and bigger carbs too
I believe this is an interesting side project and for me and Jeremy
After all how many 500's are out there racing ?
Im also hoping to get the reporter who did the original magazine article on the 500 involved
Hi Mark,

It will be really interesting to see how Jeremy gets on in the races and how the bike performs.

A Zeeltronic and Carbs will do the trick along with clever gearing for the circuit

Did you replace the rear shock and stiffen up the front end when you built it?

Can you use Slicks in this racing category?

Thanks

Ade

Hi Ade ,
tyres are open , Jeremy is making the decision on tyres
I prefer the Michelins, but I would think he'll opt for supercorsa's
When I was in france I had a chat with Daz re carbs , and the 32'sseem to be what I need
anyone want four original kr1 28's haha
as regards ignition im erring towards ignitech
the front end is still standard R1 5vy , I only tweeked the settings to suit me
the rear shock is standard R6 2co yet again ive only played with ride height and settings
Im sure Jeremy will have his own thoughts on settings
the standard units appear to cope very well
after all the forks are Kayaba's a cartridge kit would be nice though
Let me know closer to the time and I should be able to sort tickets
Mediocrity is a sin !

Hi Mark,

I am just about to order a set of Mikuni flatside 32mm carbs from the US for around £400 for 4 so if you want a set then let me know as i am hopeful to get them picked up in the US so saving on postage and the Tax..
You can also order a set of nice velocity stack to suit for £100 for 4.
Let me know if it is of interest.

Thanks

Ade

Hi Mark,

Your bike looks bloody fantastic, if your happy with it and if the people that ride it say it handles great then you have done a great job.

Trying to turn a big old lump of an RZ500 motor into something resembling anything like a GP500 is difficult at best regardless whether you use the original frame, a donor frame or a custom built frame. The layout and size of the engine is similar but still very different to a YZR500.... no matter what way you go there will always be a compromise or 2. The trick is to use your creative skills to limit that compromise.

Who gives a rats what other people say..generally its people who have never made anything, stand back and just criticise that have the problem.

Cheers
Mick

Hi Mick, very true
but its a bit like a red rag to a bull
Regardless how we do on track at least we tried
I hoping to get to 110rwhp to be in with a chance against the nimble 250's
Also hence the reason for choosing brands GP circuit, very fast and flowing
im hoping the 500 will get into its stride on the longer sections
and also Jeremy (rider) knows the place backwards
as they say .... we are still lapping faster than anyone watching !
I will try to get a go pro set up for the weekend

Hi Mark,

The velocity stacks come with a mesh and also have Alen key grub screws to hold them in place.

The carbs will need to be re-jetted but i have the information from Daz who has used them and got the right settings for something like you are going to set up.

Link for velocity Stacks:

Link for Carbs:

Let me know if you want me to order a second set of either for you.

Thanks

Ade

Hi Ade,

Because of the poor exchange rate double check the prices at Allens Performance at Bingham, UK

Cheers

Had an interesting weekend at Brands Hatch, prepped the 500 as best I could without spending the huge funds I had intended :/
With the weather being a little odd at present in the uk , we decided to put the TZR back together as a wet bike, later not allowed so entered a different class on that. So we had a total of 8 races and two bikes over two days, no wets for the 500, I lost count how many times we changed the wheels on the TZR.
The 500 performed far better than I could have expected, 1st race was damp to drying, so the rider took it easy, lap times showed that, but still took the win. The second race was dry , the super corsas had been on the warmers the 500 was quick out the box, taking a commanding lead and setting quickest time for the win, the sound exiting paddock up to druids was amazing, even the clerk of the course left his office to watch .
Unfortunately the sunday wasn't so good, as a previous race a bike had put oil down, the circuits attempts at cleaning had left huge damp patch on an otherwise dry track, my rider got pushed off line on to the damp and suffered a massive highside resulting with him sustaining a broken collar bone and the TZR ending up in the pit lane.
This meant the 500 was without a rider for the sunday, we were hoping for a clean sweep
If there is any video that appears i'll post a link
Overall a great weekend apart from the obvious, not bad for a bike that is fundamentally flawed ;)

Dubsey ... can't be.... remember, any 500 built on a 3MA chassis is doomed to failure because its all wrong.. :)

I like to know what is wrong since I started the 3MA build with the RZ500 engine. The next step is the cradle build. :smt017 :smt017 :smt017 :smt017
