1999 YZR500 project update

#1 Post by wolfgangh » Sat Dec 20, 2008 3:04 pm

Hello, have made little progress since I last posted here. All my modified fairing parts are finished and painted (they are only used as positives for the molds), molds of all parts including tank are made, already have first set of carbon fairings. Self-supporting seatunit will be finsihed mid January, for the time being I will use my aluminum tank but later will have carbon tank made. All molds and carbon works is outsourced, I am not doing it myself.

Picture shows the positive models in Antena 3 basic color:

I was a real exciting moment today to see the fairing parts in final color for the first time. I will now continue to build the foam model of the airbox, then dismantle the whole bike, get everything painted and finished and put it together finally.

I wish all of You and Your families a Merry Christmas and A hopefully good New Year!

Wolfgang - what is the other round cutout I see on the upper fairing (on rider's right) to be used for? Air intake?

That sounds like a pretty slick idea! Much easier than taking body parts or the tank off. :smt111

The quality of the fairing you sent me is excellent, the guys who work next door to my workshop make shower tray moulds, and they said that they would of not been able to better that standard
So i can only imagine how impressive your seat unit is !

What does it weigh, and how much did it cost you per gram?

Beautiful piece, artwork.

Wolfgang probably doesn't want to know what it cost per gram  It's a beautiful piece thats for sure. Looks to be very thin for self supporting.
