Steve ,are the tool kits NLA ? I thought I remember a couple of years ago dale murphy (mad beaver) saying on here you could still get them ? I'm not sure if Candian dealers had some or what he was referring too now ........

Noooooo..!!!!! :smt018

OK... as long as you have the white gloves on, we'll let you open it just this once so you can take out the contents and photograph it all for our pleasure, then seal it all back in the bag... NEVER to be opened again

Ronnie... nope, the bag was always a canvas bag for the 500....

my memory must be fading as I get old. still, my bike was only a week old with less than 100 miles on before some low life stole it! tool kit was gone when I got it back. He must've really needed one!

Ok,found the white gloves and opened the tool kit to see what was inside.I was surprised to find that it is not the same tool kit which came with the bikes from the factory  .Two of the tools with the kit are different after a double check with two original tool kits. Thanks to Paul (rd84) for your help with this. Here is a photo of the tool kit,can you spot the two tools that are different from the original tool kit?.

At last i have a set of new upper exhaust which i have now fitted,i even remembered to take the left hand one off first when i changed them  The finish on these pipes can`t be replicated so i am pleased to get an original set.I have also got the hard to get cable tie which is also fitted along with original brake pads which also have a hard to replicate finish.

Hi Ronnie,Yes i have kept a total spent on the bike which i keep well hidden from my wife  .I am trying to stop myself from doing the same standard on the rzv as it will be used.I was hoping to have it done in December for my bikes 25th birthday but it will be finished next year now.

I was thinking you must have a very understanding wife!

Will there be enough nos RZV parts left to do that bike to the same standard as this one? I hope so because I think you should do it, it would be great to have to the two "brand new" bikes together. I remember pricing up a full set of standard exhausts way back in 1985 and I'm sure they were in the region of £1170 for the four. I'm sure the upper pipes were the same price as the lower ones at £249 plus vat each.

So i'd be hiding all those receipts! but keep up the good work.

One more thing, is your RD a UK frame? Just wondered with you buying the 51X motor. And is the frame brand new unused or unregistered so you can put in on a brand new plate like a 59reg. With so many new parts i'm sure DVLA would let you do that.

The rd is a uk 47x bike from the second batch with matching frame and engine numbers ,the rzv500 has a uk v5 and has the 51x engine which came from South Africa.

Steve
If it came from the region in South Africa we used to call the Highveld, about 1400m abobe sea level, it's good, because there'll be no rust. Joburg, Pretoria and other inland provinces.

The bikes that we got from the costal regions, all suffered with a lot of rust. As you'd suspect.

Can't wait to see the finished bike.
