Well they would've had to change the clocks to MPH ones at least!

Does that mean that 250 of the original KMH clocks were just binned? They couldn't really sell them as new parts once they've been fitted. :smt102

Hi,

This is an interesting bit of info.

Does that mean that my 47X, sold to me as one of the original Marlboro bikes is no such thing?

Cheers,
Paul.

It may have been painted by Dream Machine in Marlboro colours but it was not a original Marlboro bike.If you PM me your frame number i can tell you more about the bike. The pre-production 47x bike that was sent to Yamaha UK in March 1984 was painted in Marlboro colours in 1986.

Cheers Steve

Hello lads, sorry to butt in on this thread. My bike came into Ireland from Italy and is a 47x model. It always bothered me that it had no frame plate even though it has 2 rivet holes for same.Could it be that it never had one in the first place or was it just uk 47x bikes that had none.Omminously the last 3 digits of frame/engine no are 666 :???:

Jackson, I read somewhere in here that you did not like the colour for the frame paint from the paint code, so you used a different paint, is that correct. I ask as the metallic kind of paint recommended seems a little shiny to me, is it safe to say Yamaha were shooting for an aluminium look on the frame.

maybe if you have a pic that you think best reflects the look you wanted that would help

thanks
molly

Hi Molly,

I never used a paint code,i made the mistake of having the frame powdercoated but the silver was very bright.I had to get the powdercoating removed and redone in 2 pack. I took a nos footrest hanger to my painter who matched the paint up himself.Yamaha were trying to make it look like a aluminium frame that`s for sure. Not sure what people are using now as it`s all water based these days.

Steve and Tom,

Why are most all of the pictures removed from this thread? This was a great thread with tons of awesome original equipment pictures and now only a hand full.

Steve,

Ah...I keep forgetting Tom's server doesn't actually hold the pictures.

BTW, you still owe me a PM of the Pre-production engine. Still like to discuss that one with you, I'd even ring you if you PM your phone number.

A new set of choke cables if available from Yamaha would be £120 plus
