rd 500 racer R6 bike

#1 Post by jan buijk » Wed Aug 23, 2017 3:42 pm

Hello all
Here a question from Holland,
I'm going to start a project with a yamaha rd 500 cc engine, I want to build this in a Yamaha R6, 2007 complete bike with licence
Partly because I'm going to race in a classic league, and also can ride along the road to test ect
Someone here know the problems with block and frame creation?
Do i not came into trouble with the chain line because I use the complete bicycle section of a R6 ,5,5 "rear wheel with 180 rear tire
is it possible to enlarge , or if it's for sale , a larger gearbox schaft ?
All info is very welcome because I goin buy the R6 on Friday and of course a complete 500 rebuild engine, en a lot and a lot more parts
so sorry if the language is not 100 %
gr Jan.

Hi,

An offset sprocket will give sufficient clearance for the R6 2CO rear wheel

Cheers
Paul

not trying to hijack the thread, but hey Not the Woose, are you still offering an engine mount kit for the 06 r6?

Hi gpaddict, sorry but it's not viable to produce a 1 off kit as I have to dismantle my bike to measure all the componants to draw them in cad.
The way I started was to measure from 3 points the position of the countershaft on the R6, then make jigs to hold the RZ cases with countershaft fitted to the same location. Also make sure the word YAMAHA on the side cover is horizontal with both weels touching the ground. There is not a lot of material to remove to get the engine to fit. Just remove a little at a time until the engine fits with a small amount of clearance. Happy to send photos of parts if you think that would help. Just pm me your email.
Cheers, Robert.
