Swing-arm length - how big is yours?

#1 Post by RC45 » Tue Aug 15, 2017 2:35 pm

Please post up your custom swing arm solution/length and any before/after comparisons you may have.

Just looking for an informal poll about the swing arm your custom uses, the swing arm pivot to axle length and how your bike feels. Hell, why not throw in your forks solution as well.

My custom setup:
ZX7R forks - front axle to swing arm pivot - 870mm
Steel RZ500 frame
CBR400RR NC29 - swing arm pivot to rear axle - 515mm

Completely subjective feel:
Feels stable and is not as slow to turn as other RZ500's I have been on.
CBR1000RR SP2 HRC WSBK
TZ500V/OW53 Track bike
YZR500 OW81 Clone
OW69 Daytona 200 Replica - 784cc Monster
NS400 Track Bike
RS250R NF5
TZ250T 2KM
TZ250B 3YL
TZR250 3MA Track Bike

YZR replica.....Aprilia RSV4 forks, HD VR1000 yokes (27.5mm offset), 3MA frame, 3XV swing arm =

Front axle to s/arm pivot 840mm
S/arm pivot to rear axle 590mm

Quite long wheelbase, but haven't ridden it yet, so I'll see how it pans out......

Hi guys,

2005 R1 forks, 2007 R6 swingarm

1 - Swingarm pivot to rear axle centre = 570mm
2 - Swingarm pivot to front axle centre = 848mm (wheelbase= 1418mm)
3 - rake = 23.75deg
4 - trail = 93mm
5 - weight distribution 52F / 48R

I have a rear Ohlins with a ride height adjuster and used that in conjunction with dropping the forks to achieve all of this.

My standard 2005 R1 is
wheelbase = 1395, rake 24 deg, trail 97mm

The standard RZ has w/b 1375mm, 26deg rake, 95mm trail.

It's that bloody 16" front on the standard that causes all the issues!!

I'm really happy with the handling, nice balance, the steering is not too quick, much much better than standard as you would expect.

Hello,
the CBR400RR swing arm is really beautiful, but I think it will not match to the RD frame. The suspension is bolted at the upper stiffening.
No space to modify the RD frame to make it match. The exhaust is at this area.
And the fixing point is alloy cast, not an alloy pipe, so not so easy to mile it down to the width of the RD frame (if needed).
Do you like to use it, or you assembled it already?
Pictuers?

I checked the R6 banana (approx. 58cm), the FZR 1000 (52cm), the YZF750 (52cm), TZR 3XV...
I´m using the GSXR 600 swing arm (54cm), but modified the RD frame to fix the suspension vertical like in the GSXR.
Fork is a modfied R1.
