2-stroke oil strainer

2-stroke oil strainer
I've modified a RC boat fuel tank (holds about 1 litre) to fit under my r6 seat to hold 2-stroke oil. I've no filter/strainer in the tank so some kind of in-line strainer would be great. Any suggestions?

Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
I would add something like this into the tank:

Inline fiters might not have enough surface with the risk of clogging.

Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
... Thanks spead freak, but I have already fibreglassed an outlet onto the tank so this solution would involve some reworking. I did some more searching and came across this;

this looks like it might have enough surface area?? I could check that it flows enough oil before fitting.
I also notice that the RGV/RS250 has an in-line strainer, so could use one of those if I could locate all the parts;

Does the standard RD500 oil tank have a strainer inside?

Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
You need to think about viscosity. That glass fuel filter would never allow enough oil to pass. You'd seize the motor very quickly.
Why do you want a strainer? If your oil system is clean and you are using oil from clean containers there is no need for an oil strainer. A strainer is just a restriction. Forget the strainer.

Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
OK thanks guys. Can probably get by without one then. Will just make sure tank is clean inside.

Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
Flush the tank(s) and supply line to the pump with clean oil. After that you'll never have to worry about it.
Are you using the stock oil tanks?

No..using an RC boat fuel tank mounted under the seat.

Hello, could you share more detail of your work on this alternative oil tank ?trix wrote:No..using an RC boat fuel tank mounted under the seat.
I'm interested as I will also move the oil tank Under the seat.
David.
Re: 2-stroke oil strainer
Hi David
I used an RC boat fuel tank bought off ebay;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Plastic-900CC ... SweW5VCTbh
The outlet wasn't in the right place so I screwed a hose barb into one end. I think it would seal ok but I fibre-glassed around it just in case. Then mounted it on a plate under the r6 seat unit I've fitted. It holds 900cc so I'll just top it up whenever I'm filling the petrol tank and it should be ok.
I hope these pictures explain it! You could probably look around for different sizes/shapes that better suit your application.
