Hello to all,

My Name is Oliver, and I live in South Germany. After a long Time I have now bought a nice 84 RD 500 after riding different bikes so far. Beyond them were also 2 RD 250's aircooled, and a nice RD 350 YPVS. Now I am back to the roots. The bike will be running during the next weeks. It is completely original, having 50.000 km on the clock. The engine was rebuilt in 2000 by good fellow Armin Collet, and since then only 3500 km on the road. It was owned by a guy, who has a nice collection of over 15 bikes. So it was stored cozy and warm in a show room ;-) It has already a R6 front end and 17' rear wheel. So ready to go !
I am happy to join this strong worldwide forum and will sometimes post some pictures of restauration, modification and riding it. Cheers !
Olli

Hi Oliver,

welcome :smt006
Best paint scheme of all, mine was the same in 1985 and should be the same at the end of 2017 again.

I can see one good thing: Your stone guard mesh in the lower fairing is fixed with a cable tie
I would replace it by a black one, but never remove it!
My bikes:
RD500 YPVS 1GE
RD350 YPVS 31K 1985
Honda CBR 1000 RR SC57
Yamaha R1 RN04

Oh and one thing is also a soon issue:

As the R6 front has no mechanical speedo drive, the stock speedometer is out of order.
And I hate Bicycle instruments or other electronic stuff as replacement on this motorbike....
Any ideas ? I thought to adapt a xjr1300 or similar drive with the right axis diameter to use the original speedo . Even if it is then showing slower speed than the stock 16' wheel..
