RZ500 Sprockets

#1 Post by Jarrettvp » Thu Apr 06, 2017 5:16 pm

Hi. As I restore my 1984 RZ500, I want to buy new sprockets and a chain. Any recommendations? I want to replace with the original number of tooth sprockets, but don't know what that is?

Cheers.

Gearbox sprocket is 15T
All standard rear sprockets are 38 tooth except the 52x Canadian bikes with had a 40 tooth sprocket as standard.

Stock sprockets are 15t x 38t and a 106 link 530 chain, I convert all my bikes to a 520 x-ring chain and sprockets, Running a 530 is a little overkill to be honest,
Ymaha R1 sprocket up front in a 520 and a JT on the rear

I have a 45 rear. Lots of fun :smt003

For the 520 rear sprocket conversion you can use the RZ350 or TZR250 as a reference source.

There is no lag anywhere on the throttle. As long as I have the courage to hold on it pulls hard at any throttle opening. 3rd gear acceleration is fantastic, even from roll on while cruising. Off like a rocket. Perfect for the riding I do on the back roads here. I sacrifice on the top end, but it isn't like I'll ever need to see 240 on the speedo.

The ex-Team Agostini YZR500 rear wheel I got came with a 45 tooth rear sprocket - I am trying to imagine the brass nads required to have to put a 45 tooth sprocket on a YZR500 to make it "more lively" LOL

If you want a one stop shopping solution for stock sizes try these guys. I'd done business with them several times and the prices and service are very good. http://www.ebay.de/itm/DID-VX-Kettensat ... SwjDZYmiaG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
