Re: Off topic - Bimota GT750
My BIMOTA GT750 replica is finished, eventually. I have built a second set of (custom) JEMCO pipes same as the ones shown on these pics, but with larger mufflers to reduce noise level. These are currently sent away for satin black ceramic coating.
The bike feels very agile compared to my stock water buffalo, I estimate at least 25kg or 55 pounds lighter. The VM34 carbs need to be dialled in, they are still completely off, but weather currently does not allow any test rides. Only did few laps in the backyard around my workshop.
I am very pleased with how it turned out. I only plan to spray the radiator covers in satin black since I believe in white they disturb the tank / seat line.

I am currently building a replica of the legendary BIMOTA HB1, of which only 10 were built. It is one of my all-time favorites mainly due to the design.
Since I am a two-stroke enthusiast, it needed to be an appropriate engine, so I will put in a GT750 engine. The frame is a one-off replica of course, built to fit the engine.
This is the original:
Here is my project in actual state:

Note: The battery is the "shell" (housing) of a conventional lead acid battery but I transplanted a powerful enough small LiFePo4 battery into it. Saves significant weight and is troublefree. I am using this battery technology already in a couple of other bikes, so far no problem.

Great work wolfgangh. The bike sounds amazing.
Where do you go from here? What is your next project?

Re: Off topic - Bimota GT750
I am facing early retirement in the next 5 years. After that, I plan to build a fully custom bike with my own design. Until now, I built replicas of historic sports or race bikes that I could not afford to buy as originals.silverstrom wrote:Great work wolfgangh. The bike sounds amazing.

Then, I will do my own design, something totally unusual (just as an idea - maybe a fire extinguisher as tank, something along these lines). I also want to try a completely different chassis layout and suspension system.
I have no idea yet about the type of engine I will use, I tend towards 4 stroke ( don‘t cruzify me for this). Main reason is that I dont have the skills do build twostrokes pipes myself, and hardly find someone who could build custom pipes on my bike (BT would probably do it for me but he lives on the other side of the globe). 4-stroke exhaust systems are much simpler since they dont affect engine performance so much, and you can decide between 4-into-4 or 4 individual silencers, and there are no cones involved bu5 rather tubes - unless you build conical headers like Akrapovic, but I am not going the super-high engine performance route.
Re: Off topic - Bimota GT750
Beautiful bikes. I love the 750s. The three cylinders sound so good. Would be my better me of choice for a project. You are both very talented.
Re: Off topic - Bimota GT750
Well pipe building is not such a big deal if you have a bit of talent.
As you're within a days travel on the car (Google maps says 7:44 h to Vienna): When you retire, drop in for a weekend and we'll do a pipe building workshop.
I could also assist in simulation as I have an EngMod2T license.
Other than that Marco Boehmer in Helmbrechts (http://www.sonic-speed.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) could do that as a custom project, too.
And he's just half the distance to my place
Another source for custom work in Germany would be http://dn-performance.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
