TZR 2ME Nearing Completion

#1 Post by silverstrom » Fri Oct 09, 2015 1:20 am

Have been working on this when I can find the time. Hope to be done soon. Stripped to its smallest components and completely restored. Only 19,000 Km on it, but after a couple of years sitting here in storage the crank seals disintegrated. Figured since I had to strip the motor I might as well strip everything else.

While in storage I went out one day and discovered the float valves had leaked and the entire gas tank was empty. The gas had entered the motor and due to the right crank seal disintegration the gas then entered the gearbox. The gas and gearbox oil then poured out of the gearbox vent.

Doesn't look bad from this angle

It's a 2ME, which is an unrestricted Canadian Spec bike. Very similar to the 2MA, but some differences for our market.

This bike is VIN # 2ME 000133, so a very early bike for Canada. #33 brought to our market. Only available in Canada for one year in 1987. Priced at $6000 new in 1987 it was double the cost of an RZ350. Plenty of 1KTs here, but very few 2MEs. I've never seen another.

George

The 2ME petcock is the same as the 1KT, 2MA and 2XT. The pickup is in the bottom of the tank, but the petcock is on the left side. The same as the RZ/RD/RZV 500.

sorry for the confusion. The TZR250 3MA pickup under the tank is a petcock. Then it has the regular petcock on the side. Its really nice by shutting the fuel for long storage or taking the tank off the bike. I change the pickup under the tank of my RZV500 to the pickup of a TZR250 3MA
