RGV Steve is still active

#1 Post by Questo vecchio rz » Sun Sep 20, 2015 10:37 pm

EDITED: previous post deleted 9/17 .

Figured I'd ask here 1st as there was a a rumor that RGV Steve is getting out of bikes, after speaking with him, glad to say he's still doing his thing, and offering help for fabrication/conversion projects all over.

I replied to your post on the 350 forum, but will say it again here.

If he is, it must have been decided very recently. I sent a complete engine and electrical system to him in May.

Just email him through his web site and ask.

I spoke with Steve recently and yes he is getting away from motorcycles. He has other projects in the works. This site will definitely miss him and his work

no he just finish my carbon fiber mufflers. I bought all the carbon fiber tubes that he had for mufflers for all my two stroke. Its a shame. Steve makes the prettiest carbon fiber mufflers and with the color selection he had with the tubes.
He is going to do my three projects and he is done. I won't be doing any more projects after he closes his door. After he gets done with my projects is off to Brian for rebuilding the engines and pipes.

Steve does some of the best fabrication work ever - I don't think folks appreciated just how good his work is and how reasonable the cost was for the level of expertise and engineering he provided.

In all honesty he could have charged 3 or 4 times the price and I would have still happily paid for the quality of work.

Agree 100%, I used a Disney trip years ago as a reason to drop some parts off in person. What a great guy to meet and see some of the projects he had going, interesting as hell to talk to. I think I overpaid what he quoted me just because I thought it was unreasonably cheap for the quality of work he did, and I still felt like I got a deal. How often do you get a bargain on custom parts made by a guy who builds spacecraft for a living?

RC45, Ruzty very well said. no more two stroke projects for me. I came up with some crazy ideas yet he would do them, but only the logical ones. Steve would bring back to reality.

I certainly hope he reconsiders. I've been looking forward to having him help me do the R6 swingarm. I got on this site tonight to try to establish contact with him and found this. Uuuugg. I haven't met him or even spoken to him but definitely feel a loss. I actually haven't been on the site for years because I just couldn't make my build a priority. Now that I have all of my parts in order I was looking forward to sending him the swingarm and get this project done. All these years and I never knew he had a website or did anything other than the swingarm conversion. I totally missed out.

RGVSteve prefers the phone over email.

So, every now and then, out of the blue, I would get a call from Steve.

He would offer me good fabrication advice or set me straight on whatever I was working on.

Usually, when Steve would call, we'd end up shooting the shit for a good hour.

He's that kind of guy.

Best of luck, Steve. Don't be a stranger, my dude!! :smt006

Very well said Pete
A brief history on Steve in how he would be on the other side of the phone deciding on a swingarm on my RZ350. I try an MC21 and it could fit, but the banana side of the swingarm would hit the frame. Not knowing what I could do. Steve suggested an RZ500 swingarm Yes an RZ500 swingarm with an MC21 wheel. Steve said that was the first one and last one.

Its not only the knowledge but the passion he has for bikes.

Had a nice Thanksgiving eve chat with RGVSteve. :smt006

With all the talk about him lately, I was thinking he might be under the weather or something. But, no - he's fit as a fiddle. No problems like that.

He's been doing lots of projects for many of us for years, and he said he needs some time for his own stuff.

Everything is okay. If you are having trouble contacting him, let me know. He's still around, but he's chilling.

I think he needs some time for himself, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to take on any major projects at this time.

I also think if you have a simple swingarm or triples conversion, you still might be able to get it done. And get it done right.

The only way to know is to ask.
