That's soothing to know you've done the same!

Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Stan Stephens recently did an article on the same repair done exactly the same way. Well done!

Coming along nicely
Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Looks great - this swingarm harmonizes perfectly with the frame
Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Nice work - great to see your progress.

Thank you all !
Yes Wolfgangh, I really like the swinger style too. Not too modern for this mature lady.
Even if it is not the same material, it's funny to see the swingarm stiffener is already bigger than the frame main beam .

Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Nice looking. Going to be a good project.
Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Now the rolling chassis is ready, I installed the brake rotors, also some bits here and there.. and final I decided to open the engine by myself.
First, the heads of the bolts #18 and #17 are hardly accessible ! Looking at the destroyed heads, they were tightened with hammer and burin last time.
That's also how I had to untighten them.
Are they supposed to be H screws ? There is no room for a socket, CHC would be easier to access.
The rest disassembled easily.
All bearings were installed with a lot of "green resin", some kind of Loctite ? I found it on all bearings journals.
The rear right conrod has too much clearance on the crankshaft side. To be replaced.
In fact this rear right part of the engine has probably seen a piece of spark plug falling inside, or a piece of piston ring going up and down.
There are many marks inside the crank.
The bearings of the crankshaft seem to roll smoothly. I'll got them replaced but I like this because it probably means this engine hasn't ran with damaged bearings.
Good point.
The balancing shaft is perfect, both bearings are very smooth too. I may not change them.
So no bad news globally !
A lot of cleaning now, to remove the loctite mainly inside, and to make it shiny outside.
And I have to find a company that will redo the cranshafts.
I plan to buy all the components from Yambits.
Conrods, pistons, gasket, seals, bearings, etc...
Do you think I should plan to replace the labyrinth too ?
Some work to do during the coming sunny days !

Still rear right, the groove for the bearing half moon was damaged:

And I'm also playing with the sanding machine in the workshop of my office.
Re: Back in business - 7 years later
Nice. How are you painting the magnesium parts.
Re: Back in business - 7 years later
I don't paint them. I'll leave all the side covers with raw material colour+ 2 or 3 layers of Matt varnish.
