Track bike progress

#1 Post by wolfgangh » Wed Apr 16, 2014 4:08 pm

Hi, I moved reporting progress on my race engine from the "engine" section to the "custom projects" section now, since the engine finally found its home in my rolling chassis (my previous 1991 MARLBORO Rainey replica).
I have completed the individual PV control system, the hydraulic dry clutch, the electrics and the throttle cables (what a nightmare!). Started now to figure out cooling circuit design.
I will be using 2 electric water pumps, each feeding a separate cooling circuit per cylinder bank. Thus I hoopoe to achieve equal temperature on rear and front cylinders. I also have 2 water temp gauges in my cockpit, one for froth cylinders and one for rear cylinders. With a switch on my L/H handlebar I can toggle between left or cylinder for each bank, so I basically can watch temperature of all 4 cylinders just by toggling a switch.

Today I have built Dummy radiators which fit inside the fairings and provide hose connectors at the right places.

Alex, I will bring this bike to Varano on saturday. Are you staying in the same hotel like Dubsey and me?

That is one bad assss looking machine. It just looks like it means business. Great idea with the radiator system. It is nice to toggle between front and back. Both my bikes have the alternate radiator from Rick Lance and temps seem good.

Haven´t posted for a while since I had no progress for some month. Now some days off and will move on with the race bike, I am close to fire her up first time.
Have been busy designing a low-friction and adjustable ratio cable splitter for my 4 RGV250/RS250 carbs. Since I have a ZEELTRONICS PDCI-44V with a throttle position input, I wanted to use this feature as well.
I tried to copy the design of the RS250/RGV250 cable splitter which is a drum rather than conventional cable-splitters which are moving up and down in a tube. The picture shows an already modified RS250 version (combined from 2 boxes to allow for 4 carbs):

Image

Different diameters for the throttle cable slice and the carb slices allow adjusting the ratio (important since the 4x 34mm flatslide carbs require huge force at the throttle grip).
Now, the RS250 cable-splitter box only needs to handle 2 carbs (and an oilpump), and it already has a potentiometer attached. I did not like the material it is made off (plastic), and since I had some modifications to be made I designed a new version in aluminum.

Here you can see the potentiometer:

Together with the DOMINO throttle control unit with adjustable ratio I have a perfect system now with plenty of options for variation. The required force to open the carbs is still high but operation is very smooth (I am using ball bearings in my splitterbox)
