Re: My project (1GE)
I was a little bit bored and the garage is too cold to work...
Instead of writing down all dimensions and taking pictures i`m faster to draw the part in CAD and later i can look from every direction on the part, not like a static picture.

That is awesome. Your CAD skills are excellent!
Thanks for posting the pic.
I wish I could check it out from all sides.

Re: My project (1GE)
Thank you Smoker.
Why?
Always a good question.
Maybe because i have fun to rotate 3D parts around on my screen
I want to have a big LEGO RD500 - every part ready to assemble in bags and boxes - and then my RD will be finished in ~1 week.
When they come back from replating i need to know which part number they are, so i need pictures and dimensions of the parts.
And there is no easier and more accurate way to store all details of a part than to convert it into a 3D part.
It`s also good to see all functional details of a part, one thing that is really interesting for me.
I love the simple and effective designs of the Japanese engineers.
But i think the main reason is: I`m a little bit crazy...
Otherwise i would go to the Yamaha dealer and buy a new bike.
No trouble, no blue strange smelling smoke, full equiped with electronics that makes everything for the driver. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!

When you do the crankcase could I have a copy of the DXF please !
Thanks.

Re: My project (1GE)
Hi Paul,
i don`t know if i will draw the full crankcase, i think mainly the small parts.
It`s hard to get all dimensions of this big parts with my measuring instruments.
At the moment i have done ~100 parts of i think around 1300-1500

Re: My project (1GE)
I was just being cheeky - I'm going to do a CAD top crankcase sometime in 2015 - I know how hard such an object is to do accurately - I might get it 3D scanned to start with.Speed Freak wrote:Hi Paul,

Like your CAD models BTW !

Re: My project (1GE)
It`s not that bad.
I think the RD was mainly designed by hand, so everything is quite simple.
You just need the functional dimensions like bolt positions, center point of bearings, flange shape etc.
Everything else is just adding material in the direction where the casting process allows it.
Stupid time consuming details...

Re: My project (1GE)
You should get all of these parts 3D printed and make a model RD500 !

Re: My project (1GE)
Nice job !
I used to be a CAD designer, I know the amount of job it represents !
The engine cases would be very cool.

Re: My project (1GE)
I think it might be helpful for many if you, or someone, could CAD the RZ500 "No Longer Available" parts and the RZV500 parts that are different than on the RZ500.
