you could get the heads reprofiled to remove the pitting...

That's pretty severe. Likely need to replace the head.

It looks like he's running expansion pipes, so 1mm off the head, and the CC reprofiled and he should be fine. But all 4 heads will be need to be done so it'll cost (they look standard at the moment).

Its nothing todo with the engine running that barrel was full off water for years

It should be illegal to treat that rd500 like that! Chez you have more guts than me, I dont think i would buy that bike for parts, good luck though!

Decent heads are often on auction sites, maybe that's the way to go.

Why not just get it welded up and the profile re-cut to match standard?
Wouldn't cost a fortune :???:

Best of luck with that project. The frame will probably be rotted through, i know this from experience, had one that looked better than yours but when blast cleaned was paper thin in places. Unfortunately it had to go to the happy hunting ground.
If only there was more free time.
