Black Wheels On My YZR Lookalike?

#1 Post by M@tt » Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:21 pm

Quick question to you all... Should I paint the wheels on my bike Satin Black as a more authentic YZR touch?

Black just looks fast!
I love black wheels on a car or bike. But I did a standard set of RZV wheels black and now i want them back to gold. Just to have a standard set. I've changed to RGV/GSXR wheels now, but they're black!!!

P.S. Anyone out there who wants to swap a set of black standard wheels for an original set of gold... ??? Drop me a PM (I want the gold ones :))

Having done the 'black wheels' already, I vote for keeping the gold.

What you could do is get some cans of Plasti-Dip and spray paint the wheels black as a test and if you like the look, keep it, if you don't - peel the Plasti-Dip off and go back to the gold wheels.

Effort and cost are kept to a minimum, and if you finally decide to keep the wheels black over the long term, peel the Plasti-Dip off and get the wheels permanently painted.

White looks great, but is sometimes a bitch to kep clean, gold, I dont like unless its anodized gold, gold paint just doesnt do it for me at all,Ive had a couple bikes w gold paint,I never warmed up to it. Check out Nicks gold wheels on his RG500 street fighter project, that pretty much sums it up,one look and its like a Corvette vs a Ferrari, try as you might its just not the same. Dont get me wrong Gold paint can look good..just not on a red/black machine its out of place a li'l. if your looking to make that machine jump out ! and bitch slap you, white or black is your go to!
Black wheels,on a Red /White and Black machine looks fantastic, especially on 80s GSXRs/Gammas. And in addition if your looking for the "replica look"If that really matters to you/anyone?,its generally white or black or the cancer yamaha orange on TZs and YZR replicas.
My vote is for Black, then White followed by Gold,Im kinda a stickler for color & details its my lifes job...lol.
Nice toy by the way :-) One of the best looking Ive viewed here, very nice, and the bug ,is pretty slick too!

This Old Rz... That's kinda my thinking, too. Black does look bad-ass and I think it would make the bike look more aggressive. Gold is ok, but it looks more road than race and I fancy the rep look.

Some may say this is sacrilege, but I am thinking of painting the stainless Lomas expansion chambers black as they are just too 'blinging'. I am also going to strip the mufflers and replace the stainless outer tube with carbon fibre. Toughen the bike up a bit!

Off topic a little... There's 638 horsepower in the back of that Bug and it weighs 1600 lbs :) It's one he'll of a thrill ride: 9.56 seconds to 146.25 mph on low boost mode!

The LCR (Bradle) Honda is one of the best looking bikes in the motogp paddock IMO... gold wheels.

Agreed, but Hondas often have some gold in their paint schemes, so it works well.
