I wish LOL.

But I have been prototyping sprocket carrier pieces. Once I have finalized these various pieces I will go ahead and CNC cut aluminium prototypes, then get final pieces done in magnesium.

Would you mind sharing the printer cost and material cost?

How durable is the print material? Are there varieties of materials?

Imagine being able to 3D print gas tanks. Add a POR-15 liner and you're done.

The printer is a lower end but decent featured printer. Robo 3D R1+. No the latest and greatest but is one of the easier to use and better overall quality sub-$1000 printers.

About $800 with 2 rolls of media on sale from Microcenter. $700 for printer and $40 each for the rolls of media. This printer prints a variety of media. I just print with the PLA for now. The prints are durable enough for test fitting and the like but not for much else. I would rather have a commercial industrial grade 3D print service make actual production pieces if I was so inclined.

I think home 3D printing is still in the hobby arena at the moment.

WOW! I need a sprocket carrier for my YZR500 Marchesini. Slightly different to that one though.
This is a previous photo I have.

I haven't really looked yet to be fair, but I can't see it being that easy to find one.

Gents, if those are pukka YZR500 wheels please share the dimensions with me.

I would love to see the brake rotor side as well. Let me have the bearing part numbers and face to face dimensions.

I will draw up what we need and we can even see if Marchesini (Marvic) still have the appropriate cush drive pieces.

What is the size of the cush drive rubber holes? They may even be Yamaha sized pieces.

I think it's a very good idea of a way of coping a tank either yzr or something else.

However, I would only use it for making a plug, so you could then make molds from it, to make a stronger tank.
As I don't think a 3d print fuel tank with por15 would be strong enough but I might be wrong, hence why Fiberglass tanks were banned in the GP's in the 1980's
I might be wrong as it depends on the strength ect of the material.
The idea is Very interesting though & has a possibility.

The wheels I have were from Jean Michelle Bayle's Red Bull YZR500.
I have other photos but I'll take more measurements.
Mick Costin seemed to think the brake discs of the Aprilia RSV were a direct fit.

Johnny I agree. It would be ideal for printing a mold plug. But I would rather CAD model the tank then make buck strings from wood and then make a custom aluminium tank using the stringers and profile guides. That way you address the strength issue.

Another side project for this year is to 3D print custom engine case mold plugs to sand cast cases that include molded in mounting lugs and intake and cylinder support for TZ250 3AK cylinders :)

I would also love to have the 1985 OW01 bodywork I have, redone in carbon fiber or maybe Kevlar to get the weight down to the required 120kg target.

Since I am having a bunch of custom magnesium pieces made I may as well make sure the body work is period correct as well :)

Front probably as Ducati (all the Italians) use the Yamaha 6 bolt 80mm 64mm hub ID layout. rear brakes dpend on year and caliper as well and rotor size.

I will watch this with great interest,
as it has good possibilities depending on the size of the parts to be made as I was recently asked to make a Cagiva lawson replica, which the parts were so big to be 3d printed it would have cost big ££££
Before I started to make molds & the fairings ect, so it will now be another YZR replica which is a great shame as would be nice to see something different.

If I can help you in anyway Paul just call.

Best regards
Johnny C.

I am teaching myself to use the English wheel this year, so will be making my own YZR alloy tank - I am sure with enough drawings and measurements I could CAD up a Cagiva (or any other tank) tank and then hand make it.

Johnny I will be calling you for sure - as it would be a shame not to have molds made of the OW81 bodywork.

I wish I had your skills on the computer.
As I am old school pattern/tool maker.

We can make the molds for your OW81 when you need them, no problem.

I will send you an email tomorrow as I am working on 2 other projects which I could use your cad help.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Many thanks

Best regards
Johnny C.
