Speaking of keys, it's easy to rekey the lock so it works with your ignition key. I just did one a few weeks ago.Kalim wrote:My keys don't have the 100£ plastic overmoulding additional feature !

I changed my main switch many years ago after somebody tried to steal my bike, so I have 2 sets of keys.
What would be the easiest ? Rekey the main switch ? Or the fuel cap and helmet hook ?

Re: NEED A NEW RD/RZ 500 FUEL CAP ?
The fuel cap and helmet lock are very easy to do. The hardest part is removing the screws. Go back to the first page of this thread and you'll see more.phildu31 wrote:Hi John,silverstrom wrote:Speaking of keys, it's easy to rekey the lock so it works with your ignition key. Then go here http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB3/viewto ... ilit=locks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you Google Rekey Yamaha Locks you'll find videos.
You can rearrange or modify the tumblers to work with your ignition switch key or remove the tumblers so any key will work. I remove the tumblers. No one is ever going to try and open the locks here.
Re: NEED A NEW RD/RZ 500 FUEL CAP ?
John, How are the Suzuki locks, Are they as easy as the Yamaha locks to re-key, Sorry for going off topic.
I have a YBR cap on my bike, Fits perfect and easy to re-key, Only thing is it sits pretty high...

Re: NEED A NEW RD/RZ 500 FUEL CAP ?
I just did an RG500 fuel cap Paul. There is a protective cover over the tank lock. You have to lift the small tab and use a small hook to remove a tiny circlip.tacky1 wrote:John, How are the Suzuki locks, Are they as easy as the Yamaha locks to re-key, Sorry for going off topic.

I'm doing RG500 clocks now. Easier to open than Yamaha clocks and far easier to reset the RG500 speedo. Remove a small circlip and rotate the wheels. The Gamma needles are solid orange, so easy to repaint when faded. Overall, the Suzuki clock restoration process is easier than the Yamaha clocks. Just wish I could find Gamma clock face/dial decals for the worst of them.
I have a genuine YBR125 cap (used) that I bought in Germany. I thought it fit well. I'll have to check again. I'm curious now. It's on tank #4, so I haven't really thought much about it.

Any chance you can assist me by replacing the RZ500 tach face with a TZ250 tach face - or at least a TZ250/500/750 lookalike face that corresponds to the RZ500 demarcations.?
I have been having trouble getting the TZ250 tachs to respond correctly to RZ500 electronics (even with Zeel and other tach timing tools) - maybe its time to try reface an RZ500 tach and be done it.

If I can remember when I get home I’ll take a photo of mine also.
But for some reason lately I have been brain-dead when I leave work??? So I will probably forget.

I've changed faces on RZ speedos and tachs. The hardest part is opening the gauge. After that it's easy. I can talk you though it.RC45 wrote: Clocks? Redoing clocks?

Re: NEED A NEW RD/RZ 500 FUEL CAP ?
I just checked Paul. The stock YBR cap looks and fits just like the RZ cap. The only obvious difference is the finish, with the YBR being more chrome like. The fit is identical and it sits completely flush with the tank, as the RZ cap does.tacky1 wrote: Thanks John, Check yours and see how much it sits up, Ill take a pic of mine and post it later, Thanks again..
The aftermarket YBR caps are made to fit a wide variety of bikes, including those with covers over tanks, so they need to sit higher. It's a one size fits all approach that doesn't work well for the RZ tanks. If you want it to fit properly, it has to be a genuine Yamaha cap.
This might be a possibility, but I can't be certain without seeing the underside of it and the length. http://www.cmsnl.com/products/5vlf46021 ... vlf460202/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
