NEED A NEW RD/RZ 500 FUEL CAP ?
I know a few people are looking for a fuel tank cap in good condition but a original cap is no longer available under part number 47x2460200.This part number supercedes to the rzv500 cap 51X2460200 but this is also nla and supercedes to a black fuel cap for a fz750 1AE2460200 which is available.I have found something out which i would like to share with people who may need a new cap.I am a bit of a Yamaha parts anorak and saw a fuel cap on ebay for a Yamaha YBR125 which looked the same as a rd/rz500 cap.So i went to my local Yamaha dealer with a original cap and compared it with a YBR125 they had on display. The cap from the YBR125 is made in China and the base is made of plastic but the rest is like the original. The part number for the cap is 5VLF461001,this is what you get.

Here is the YBR125 cap on the left and an original cap on the right to show the difference between them.
If you undo the two screws on the back you get to the washer and o ring on the bottom of the key barrel to remove them to release the barrel. The key barrel is the same as the one in the original cap so its just a case of swapping the tumblers over to the new barrel from your old cap so you can use your original key. This is what i am doing in this photo here.

Let me know how you get on if you do buy a cap and fit it.If you are finding it hard to get this cap i might be able to help and post worldwide if a donation is made to Tom towards the running cost of the site. Here is my new cap fitted on my tank.

Hi Matty,You can not remove the barrel with the key in as it stops the last tumbler from being depressed .Leave the key out and with a small screwdriver push the tumbler in and push the barrel out the cap.As soon as the barrel is moving out the cap put the key back in as this will hold all the other tumblers in place and wont end up on the floor.Let me know how you get on.Cheers Steve

Just recieved a fuel cap perfect fit and only 16 pounds ( sorry beat you on price ) thanks for the tip makes the tank look 100% better.
Who would have thought the cap of a YBR125 would be the same as an RD / RZ, I think I will go down to the local yam dealer and have a look round some of those new bikes to see if there is anything else.

Gas caps to the US?
Wondering how many others need a cap in the US. I could probably arrange to get them over here as we get shipments from Europe all the time, mainly scooter parts(another obsession of mine).
Drop me an email and I'll compile a list. retro_imports at yahoo dot com.
Anyone else up in the CT area of the US?
Cheers,
Rob
