Different fuel tanks
Moderator: rztom
No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express
I am not really sure what the capacity of a FZR400RR tank is. I imgagine its got to be close to the 600 Thundercat's and if I can find it I will for sure post. It seems smaller than the RZV. It had an air box under the front and its physically no larger than the RZ's.
I am taking a break before I start masking for additional colors but will get you some pictures at various angles if it helps along with the rear bracket I intend to use
Mark
P.S. I can be reached at gpcustom@bellsouth.net ,.......for pictures

Hey Steve,..I feel your pain and did the whole single stage thing for years on the racers. But with exception for the clear the Nasan paint @ paint and base maker are dry and ready for a second coate in 15 minutes without the bugs.smurph wrote:Wow, that is a nice looking tank!
What kind of paint are you using? More than one color?
I have been painting with DuPont single stage and it takes sooooooooo long to dry enough to mask off for the other color. And if you have a bug or two materialize out of thin air (Why do they love wet paint so much?), it's going to be at least 8 hours before you can sand it and spray it again.
Some things I have learned from painting a few cars and multiple motorcycles:It has really been frustrating for me to paint this time around. I want a better way for the next bike.
- You can prevent dirt with a clean environment.
- White paint is hard to spray. It's hard to tell how much paint is there and it's easy to make a run.
- Wet paint == bug magnet. You can do nothing about them. They appear even in the vacuum of space if there is wet paint.
Steve
Sure makes it look better but then you still have additional colors as well as paint masks to contend with
I clean up the lines and overspray with an eraser and 15 minutes later its clear time with two or three coates 3/1 @ clear to activator and its ready to handle the next day
I think in an effort to save time that I shall try the Myth-Busters way of painting with explosives next time,....Any one for the flower of death with 5 colors???

4 Fluid Ounces or 400?gpcustoms wrote: Brackets?,..."We don't need no stinking brackets"
Front bracket bolts right from the RZV to the FZR.
Capacity?,...at least 4 fluid ounces Paint?,....base coate clear coate with a layer of bugs just to enhance the laminar flow.
4 gives me 0'11 Liters...

Re: Different fuel tanks
I tig welded a custom neck on and use a PW50 threaded cap...gpcustoms wrote:So here is the question. Has anyone used a fuel tank off of anything a tad more stylish without the key cap style that is standard?
I imagine that there is something close enough to use but my spare tanks are limited to RG and TZ fuel cells.

Positive Venting is the order of the day.
I tried a spondon TZ250 alloy tank and it didn't look so good it worked ok but the stock tank looks best in my opinion....
Re: Different fuel tanks
I wonder if that's the same as an FZR250 tank? The only FZR400 tanks I can find have a plastic cover over a separate steel tank??? Also, has anyone got any better pics of this mod?

This must be a record for reviving a dead thread. 10+ years.
Re: Different fuel tanks
But it is an interesting topic. I would be interested to see how the tank looks at different angles against the stock bodywork? I've always liked the looks of the FZR 400 in red and white.

...it seems to be the only thread on alternative tanks. spotted a 250 one on ebay and it looks to be the same;

Re: Different fuel tanks
Nice to see my bike getting love when it was Marks bike
I currently have a TZR250 1KT tank on the bike.
Mounting is taken care of by welding a receiver similar to the TZR250 frame, so the tank hooks on and is fastened at the back.
Will post photos in a couple days.
The TZR tank looks very good on the RZ.

Re: Different fuel tanks
If you like to upgrade your tank to a flush cap and matching keys. The 1988 1989 FZR1000. The helmet lock and seat lock are the same. you can take the harness out of the ignition and use the RZ500. The gas cap of the FZR1000 can be cut out and transplanted to the RZ tank. Now you will have matching keys.
