battery strap dimension

hello

can any body tell me the length of the battery rubber strap ?
my rzv500r did not have one , so i dutifully bought the proper part number (genuine yamaha)

46X-21376-00
(it came in a sealed yamaha bag with the proper part number )
(there is an "N" engraved on the rubber)

mine (the one i bought ) is 96 mm from hook to hook .
it is at least 10 mm too long .
the battery box is genuine and not modified , the battery is the proper type/dimension .
and the strap is new ...
wonder if there has been a mistake at packaging stage at Yamaha ..

I recall having a this problem a few years back. If my memory is correct the strap goes around something nearby (frame tube?) as well as hooking on each end.

If nobody else comes forward with a dimension or better advice I will take a look at my bike tomorrow.

Not sure but that looks like the rubber strap that holds down the tool kit.

75mm from hook to hook for the battery strap.
One hook is not at the end on one side of the rubber ( for ease of use ).
For the tool kit, hooks are both at end of rubber and 80 mm long.

I just measured a new strap (46X-21376-00) and it is also 96 mm from hook to hook

So it's not packaged wrong

I was measuring from the outer part of each hook so that seems correct with the new one i have

You may have noticed that the part number Indicates the length. In this case 76 mm. It is likely that at some point the part was replaced by the longer strap, but the number was not superseded as we typically see.

thanks all , for all the info .
in the meantime , i bought another 46X21376-00 from Yamaha .
(just to be sure ....)
it is definitely 9mm from hook to hook .

So i will follow Paulrs 's suggestion and pass the strap arround the frame tube .
