I also have a set of Wyn's mid panels made of carbon fiber. I tried to post pictures but couldn't. I received a good chunk of his parts from someone that knew his family via a speed shop out of Orlando. I can send you a text message photo of these panels. This thread is a couple months old but of interest to me too. My project is just getting off the ground, but I will need bodywork.

I see the airtech stuff available but I am curious about "just tuck the rear expansion Chambers in". Is there cutting and welding involved?

1991 Harris YZR500 is the one I prefer because it is less bulky looking. I already have one of Wyn's YZR500 seat units but still need a front fairing. I find the 1990 Airtech one expensive, around $1400 USD, and usually on the heavy side so I am looking at this one from Harris at 350 pounds which is $600 CAD plus shipping? The seat is 185 pounds or just over $300 CAD

Yes, I was being rather flippant as the RZ500 upper pipes are laid out about 50% wider than the YZR500 to clear the street baggage on the street frame, so you need to really do a number on the upper pipes routing to tuck them under a real YZR500 tail piece.

Once you do that if your upper pipes are not pretzel style the rear stingers tend to stick waaaaay out the back and look kinda silly.
You can use very short silencers to help, but in my opinion if the upper pipes are not laid out right on a replica they look very awkward.

Well I guess I totally missed that didn't I? Lol.

On the airtech site they say that their seat fits RZ500. I assumed it wouldn't require any extreme mods. They also say that the fairing is more of a job. Widening the belly pan might be doable, but it seemed like they were implying more than that.

I've got time to shop, just listening and learning so far.

Hi,

King Carbon do YZR / Harris bodywork and also a RD/RZ/RZV500 ‘compatible’ OWD3 type YZR fairing and seat - the fairing will accept the original airbox but needs JL GP pipes or similar - it will also accept the original radiator - the front sub-frame , oil tank and overflow bottles will need sorting - the seat fits the tank nicely but needs a new subframe and the JL pipes routed to fit since the YZR seat is much narrower at the rear than the original bike.

Do you happen to have any photos with the tail off? You mentioned a new sub frame and modding the upper pipes. I would love to see what you have done.

Did you order your pipes unfinished so you could cut and reweld? I had my sub frame cut off so it could come as plane baggage, so now would be a good time for frame mods for me

I’ll try and find a photo with the seat off - my bikes away at the moment having some work done to it - I bought the JL Pipes made up but with no brackets - I got NK Racing in the UK to cut and weld the upper and lower pipes to fit - they said neither set were too much trouble - the lowers didn’t really need doing - I just wanted the pipes a bit tighter to the bike at the silencer end - I used NK silencers because I liked them better than the JL -

There are two types of bodywork available at King Carbon - pure OWD3 1991 YZR which I think came from the Harris version of the bike and then there is my version which I converted to fit the RD/RZ/RZV500 as much as possible - I converted the main fairing to fit the original radiator and airbox- it will need a new front subframe and work doing to reposition the oil and overflow tanks. I made the tail more rounded than the YZR and also made its shape flow into the OEM tank - this seat requires a new subframe and pipes - King Carbon then took my work and made a mould of it - I’m leaving the mould with them until the New Year so that they can provide it to any RD/RZ/RZV500 enthusiasts that are interested - with this in mind Lee at King Carbon is doing them on special offer at £300 for the fairing and £180 for the seat - postage in mainland UK is £20 - you would have to enquire about postage outside the UK though.

I ordered the front fairing in woven FRP and a windshield today. Lee said the front faring is also modified with additional venting and widened. This is a finite opportunity so I jumped on it!
