Post by Sim » Sun Oct 08, 2017 4:08 pm

I have just purchased a genuine factory yamaha yzr500 self supported seat unit which was removed from Jean Michel Bayles 1996 bike it still has a little damage on the left side. it has some numbers on some tape on the underside it would be great to find out what they mean and if the damage occured while he was racing and what gp

Just a guess, but it looks like it is number 8 of the batch that were made. The 900 and 1490 are the weight in grams. 900 grams for the bare unit and 1490 grams for the unit with mounting hardware, seat pad, etc.

That sounds like a very logical guess i had a thought about the number 8 being a batch number but never thought the other numbers were to do with the weight it is ultra light looks like its made from carbon

1st was wondering about the 2pc design, but the image clearly shows a 2pc seat unit.
Likley data logging etc was utilised.
