Exhausts - advice

#1 Post by Jarrettvp » Sun Jan 22, 2017 4:17 pm

Hi. Can anyone advise on the best way to renovate the exhausts on a 1984 RZ500?

They are in fairy good condition, but I want them to look like new (original). I've unbolted the end cans and wondered whether to get the exhausts shot blasted and repainted.

Any advice?

Cheers

Hi

Blasting with a not too aggressive media will be fine then recoating with a suitable high temp paint

Hi,

Just to complicate things...

The originals weren't painted - I've got a NOS exhaust but can't quite make out the finish - it's either a black zinc or a chemically blacked finish - there is a definite metallic shine to it.

Puts bullet proof vest on and stands back  ...

Cheers

Already posted somewhere else...
I guess it`s black chrome.

End cans are probably brushed and then anodized (natural silver) before welding.
The raw weld is then painted black to protect it from corrosion or just for a good finish.

If you grind the silver layer off it looks like there is a paint layer on it.

I don't think it's black chrome - it doesn't look like the finish I've seen on Kawasaki exhausts.

I wish I could figure it out - I've also got some exhausts I'd like to restore.

Cheers
