GRRRRR.....I am Pissed!

#1 Post by borofc » Mon Oct 17, 2016 8:24 pm

Sorry if the subject line upsets anyone but if I had posted this an hour ago I think I would have been banned, managed to calm down slightly.

So after many years of wishing and dreaming I was finally in the position to purchase the bike of my dreams.........play the melodic arhhhhh mirage in the sky music.

After 4 or 5 hours of backwards and forwards bartering I finally agreed a price with the seller who turned out to be one of the best guys I have met and will definitely be staying in touch.

Bike is a 1985 with 5200 original miles all still OEM

Now to the GRRRR part!...takes paperwork to local vehicle tax office for transfer of title....."You need to get a state inspection" says man behind counter. "No problem" says I and back to the home of cherished baby I travel. Fire up the beast and make my way to the inspection station. Upon arrival I look at the single seat cover to find one side nearly touching the grab rail, the air turns blue, black, purple and the guy in the inspection station thinks he has a customer with Tourettes! Mother of all ****** says I and the inspection station guys says whats wrong?....Look at my seat, he smiles and says what year is the bike?.....2nd gear Tourettes kicks in and I say "a ******** year that doesn't make parts any ******* more!
Oh he says, now I know why you are upset!
Somewhere between my house and the testing station, which is all of 2 miles, the seat decided to remodel itself into a Any Warhol sculpture.
I guess I am now on the look out for a NOS seat cover which we all know is rarer than a Leprechaun riding a Dodo.
I guess worse things could happen :smt013

Go for a walk, you might find the missing piece. You wouldn't believe the stuff I've recovered from the roadside after it was lost.

It was still attached to the seat under the fastening.

Even better, less walking. It can be repaired to look like new, although I do understand your stress seeing a failure in your brand new dream purchase.

Very fortunate the piece didn't jump ship. Get used to repairing cracks.

That should be one of the required rules for vintage bike ownership, especially the RZ500, which tends to crack by just looking at it. I've repaired miles of cracks over the years. Acetone fixes everything.

30+ year old ABS plastic, brittle as egg shells. Make sure to use cotter pins on those mounting bolts when you get it replaced. I have a spare tail piece if you need one.
