electrical dies at 7000 rpm

#1 Post by jean-patrick lague » Mon Jul 03, 2006 10:40 am

Hi, I just bought another RZ500, it work great, it has around 25000 km.
The bike is sharp and crisp, I just did the upper crank conversion, and it just sound and feel wonderfull. Has I was riding it for the fist time yesterday, I realised that everytime that the RPM hit 7000 rpm, the RPM dies and also the light indicator (NEUTRAL FLASHER HIGHT BEEM).

I just have to turn off the key and put it back on and everything comes back, until I it the 7000 rpm again.

Anyone has any idea where should I look first ?

thanks
jp

Hello,

Just read your post, would the problem be connected to the powervalve?

I think that I`m right in saying that it starts around 6200 and is fully open at 8000rpm.

Perhaps there is a problem there.

It is at 8000 rpm that all electrical shut down front light, rear light, ypvs flasher. the bikes still go I guess on the generator.

Yesteday I have change the cdi control box, still does dies at 8000 ?

could it be that there is to much currant at 8000 rpm so that it just shut down a relay somewhere.

what would you change next ?

thanks

Hello,

This is a problem that makes you think?

Have you got a manual and wiring diagram?

The first thing I would do is to check all the earth connections and give them a good clean.

Generally check all conections, if you have the manual and a multimeter check all components against the values in the manual.

Is the bike running well until 8000rpm?

I believe that the revcounter can sometimes cause strange problems, but I not experienced this myself!

Also the Igintion switch can cause trouble, but to to truthfull I am guessing.

Reading your post, you say that you have bought another 500, does that mean you have two at present?

if so the easiest way would be to swap parts bit by bit.

Cheers for now,
Bill

Masterbill, guess what !

It was the ignition switch ????????????
I took the switch from the other bike and it is working find now.
I just have to figure out why, but the switch that works find, does not have screw 9so i can open it easely) like the other one.
I dont think I can open it !

Let me check it out

I will keep you guys posted on any development

thanks
