I'm not grounded, but it should be (turn signa vs rpm gauge)

#1 Post by 2002tiil » Fri May 26, 2017 11:37 am

I think i have a ground issue: When the turn signal is on, my rpm gauge is effected, shown by the gauge who moves up and down.
I'm trying to find the ground cables and connections: Could someone point me out where they are on the bike before i dismantle it completely?
I want to look at them all, due to strange issues (brake light don't allways does it etc)/

Much appreciated in forward,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Check the state of the battery charge before you do anything.

Hi,
Measured the battery, only 9,5 V.
Started the engine, only ca 10 V on the battery.
Charged it till ca 12,9 V, battery seems good (YPVS control works fine now)
Should i change the stator or are there other things to check?

Regards,

Richard

Start with the regulator-rectifier. Sometimes it is just the reg-rec having a poor ground. It is grounded through the case/body so a cleaning and light sanding as well as a clean frame is necessary. If it isn't a poor ground you can test the reg-rec with a meter if your meter has a diode setting. It is often easier to swap the reg-rec. There are plenty of them around. Same unit used on TZR250 and RZ350, as well as others.

Check the reg-rec connector as well. Contact cleaner on both plugs.

If that doesn't fix it for you your next step is to meter the stator.

Just ordered new rectifier/ regulator, just in case. If it's in i'll look into it.
Thanks!

Okay, rectifier/ regulator is okay, grounding is good (measured on several points)
Stator: Allso good.
Changed the coil: Bad connection on wire/ spark plug (had one in stock).

If it isn't solved i'll try extra grounding, i'm down in ideas... Ground from battery is a little bit tiny. First ride the bad thing. :smt003

To fix a problem on mine I ran a separate ground wire from the rectifier to the frame and it was cured. I would have to look at my notes to find out what the exact symptom was. My rectifier is relocated on a powder coated tray under the fuel tank so it needed the discrete ground connection.

As John said above…this is potentially an easy fix if it is a rectifier ground problem. Sounds like maybe it isn't though.

Good luck.

An update: Thought it wa solved, but problem started after a while again.
After the winter i noticed that the battery was down, bought me a lithium one.
Now i can say (after 2 month) that this solved the prob.
