Wiring Harnass Questions

#1 Post by Edd » Wed Jan 11, 2017 9:39 am

Hi Guys

Fitted a new harnass on my rz 500 (43G). The new harnass does not have a plug to connect to the fan. Did some of the models not come out with fans? I also realised the 500 aluminium frame harnass is totally different to the one I had had to sell that again. I also have my neutral and oil lights not working properly then they work then they don't when ignition is turned on. Will check connection at plug think that is my problem. However as soon as you start the bike the lights work fine. I did fit a new battery, not the problem. Then the rev counter only registers every second revolution, bike starts fine rides fine but only revs up to 6000rpm but I am doing 12000 rpm :smt017 .

Any thoughts

Edd

Did the rev counter work properly before? I ask because a half reading rev counter typically means you have a 4 stroke rev counter installed. I have seen rev counters read very low with a bad battery, and I've had that happen, but you have a new battery now and that shouldn't be the problem.

I suspect you might have a set of FZ600 gauges,,, They look the same, Different needles and the RPM read at half of the actual reading.
Can you post a pic of the gauges

Hi Guys;

Bike worked fine with the old wiring harnass I fitted a zeel on that harnass. Got a new harnass wanted to fit std cdi and pv controller back on the bike. Zeel is going to a track bike. Bike did work right with the old cdi and pv controller before I fitted the zeel.

How many wires are sending the rpm signal to the rev counter?

Edd.

The solid grey wire from the main harness is the tach signal. That comes straight from the CDI

Are you wired correctly on the rear of the tach? The 3 small wires should be in the proper locations for black, brown and grey. The small grey wire at the tach is the big grey bullet from the main harness and that is your CDI connection.

Any idea if some harnasses came without a fan connector?
