How to wire a Zeeltronic PCDI-24V

#1 Post by Jetjockey » Sat Oct 08, 2016 12:00 pm

Hi.
I'm sure someone on here can help me with this.
I'm "Still" building my YZR500 Replica and have finally got onto the dreaded electrics. I will making a completly new loom and a Zeeltronic PCDI-24V. (Learning as I go here)

I have been sent 2 wiring diagrams with the Zeeltronic.
1 goes direct to the PV Servo and the Stator....
1 goes to the YPVS & CDI connectors.

Now...I am new to all this so bear with me.

As I understand it, the PCDI-24V "Replaces" the 2 separate units of the YPVS Control Unit and the CDI unit. Is this correct?

If so....Do I need to just use the wiring diagram the connects from the PCDI-24V to the "PV Servo & Stator"???

I'm sure some here has already done this so any advice/tips/pics would help me enormously

Thanks.

Dave.

Hi Dave,
Just installed this Zeel unit myself.
Yes, it replaces the stock CDI and PV controller.
It needs to be wired to connect to the PV servo, stator, coils, and power.
Other functionality such as shift light/map switch etc is optional.
The wiring diagram 'RD500 -PCDI-24V', is the one you want to follow.

I found the stock pick-up coil required modification to move it closer to the flywheel....

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Rgds.

I installed an older version of controller and the only issue i had was getting tach signal. I eventually connected to one of the power leads to the upper coil.

I always wonder what problem may occur if you have a wiring diagram like this:
http://www.zeeltronic.com/manuals/RD500 ... 4V_con.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All you have to do is to cut off the connectors and solder the listed cables together.
As long as you're not color blind it's a task that's feasible for maybe 80% of mankind.
To install the box on a 350 it takes around 2-3 h incl. strobing the engine to check timing.

Building a completely new harness is a rather huge task.
It means you have to either have the RD500 wiring diagram and assign the right cable colors and locations or measure which cable goes where.
What's required here is experience, logical understanding and equipment. If that's not completely available, (and that's my advice) get someone paid for that job who doesn't need to ask.

I really do not intend to insult anyone, but alone from how and what you're asking I derive that your current understanding is not enough to accomplish the complete harness job properly.
Didn't say you cannot learn, but it may involve tiresome discussion and/or expensive miswirings.
Bye
Martin

Thanks Guys.
All this helps.

Ahhh Martin.
You "Are" insulting but.....ill not take it personally coz there's a lot of idiots on forums.
I do have an original wiring loom and do have experience of motorcycle electrics. Mainly race wiring for 4 stroke racebike's. But obviously you didn't know that!

I have a plan!!!! (Hopefully it'll work) lolol
If not....ill be asking on here again....if thats OK Martin!

I have 2 wiring diagrams sent by Zeeltronic and was just asking from guys that have done this....which one did they use.

Advice on here is always good.
Thanks for your ... Errrrr.....input!
It's nice that I can find non patronising advice on here aswell (Thanks Stevoho)

Hi Dave,

Good luck with the custom loom.
I have constructed one from scratch using the Zeel, and it is straightforward if you take your time, think about everything carefully and test it before wrapping it all up in heat shrink and tape etc. BTW, I recommend Tesa cloth tape for binding up the loom. It gives a really professional finish, far better than pvc tape. eBay has loads of it and is dirt cheap.
Have fun!

Hi Dave,

My loom is for a YZR replica, so fits a 3MA frame.
Attached are photos, but difficult to see as loom is already fitted. Hopefully you can see how I routed it with the battery being in the tail unit.
