Blowing Fuse

#1 Post by bogey » Fri Apr 13, 2018 4:05 pm

Hi,

I am having an issue whereby the10 amp fuse which the power valve servo is on is blowing. Noticed power valves were not cycling on ignition turn on and traced to the fuse. Replaced the fuse, thought the problem was doves as worked for a few days but now it has blown again.

I would be very grateful for any help or info on what might be causing this.

This fuse also drives fan motor. Take a look at the thermo switch and fan motor. I guess you have something wrong there.

Thats kind of correct, The servo shares a circuit with the the thermo sender unit (which then operates the fan)
living in Ireland at this time of year cant imagine you will suffer any over heating problems,
disconnect the sender unit and see if the problem persists.
I had this very same problem.

Thanks guys, read another thread as well where it suggested ithe Thermo switch was the most likely cause of the problem. Are these known to fail? Is there a replacement available Ivor are they the same as any other bikes e.g. the RZ/RD 350???

Your thermo switch is certainly still good.
If thermo switch fails, fan will never run or always run.
Most probably the problem is your fan motor which is probably in short-circuit. So, when thermo switch goes on you blow your fuse.
First, you can bypass the thermo switch. If fan runs : fan is ok, if fuse blows : fan is dead.
Or you can wire the fan directly to the battery.
Or check the resistance of the fan with an ohmmeter.

If you need a fan in excellent condition, I have several. Contact at <rick@lancegamma.com>
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info. I’ve seen a few posts suggesting it is the Thermo Seitch which they are saying can develop a short, whilst phildu31 you reckon it’s the fan. Haven’t had a chance to wire the fan up direct but just wondering how confident you are it’s the fan, could it be either? Or has past experience show which it is more likely to be?

To bypass the switch, you just have to unplug the connector under the tank.
Then connect the two plugs in the connector with anyhing you have in hand and see what happens.
Very easy to do.
Either fan will start or fuse will blow...
Next step will depend.
