R6 Swingarm with GP Pipes

#1 Post by Smoker » Thu Apr 05, 2018 2:29 am

I know there are a lot of RZ500 owners using the R6 swingarm.

My R6 swingarm is a 2006, which I think is the same through 2014.

My R6 swingarm was modified by RGVSteve.

Does anyone know if standard aftermarket GP pipes will fit under this swingarm?

Any clearance issues?

Thanks! :smt006

Smoker, I had a 2006 swingarm for Steve to modify but it was recommended to go to the next model which begins 2008. They are very similar but there are suttle differences.

I have JL stainless GP pipes and they fit just fine.

Thanks, kpke. :smt006

Now, I'm curious what the difference is between the 2006 and 2008 arm. Probably lighter weight. This 2006 is a boat anchor. I should weigh it, but I really don't want to know.

Got a call first thing this morning from the man, himself. Impossible for me to talk to RGVSteve for less than an hour. Building bikes has also built many friendships. Been very good for me.

I'm going to need custom upper pipes for sure. Good to know I could use standard aftermarket pipes for the lowers, if necessary.

Sitting on my OEM RZ500, feels like my knees are going to snap. I don't see any option besides making a custom tail. Need to sit higher on the bike. Would prefer straight upper pipes with cross over headers. So, major modification of the subframe is necessary. I've got some good ideas, though.

I'm not ready for pipes, yet.

The reason I'm asking, is because I'm working on foot controls.

Need to know if I need pipe mounts on one side, or both.
